I know there have been threads on this before (and I've read them), but I wanted to start another one since things change rapidly. Also wanted to share my experiences and hope to get more suggestions.

Here is my strategy for parking:

1. Default lot is Parking Spot, Century. Medium priced and frequent vans. However, the last few times I've had the weird experience of waiting in the red zone upon return at T7 and watching 2 or 3 vans bypass without picking up. This can be infuriating, especially when tired. The last time, I even called to tell them I was there, and the 2 vans still just drove right by (I was waving!). Also, waited a long time to get my car when I used valet. Less than $15/day for self-park.

2. Cheap option is Crowne Plaza. Usually when going on a longer vacation and getting to the airport early. Spots are small and a lot of driving around to find an acceptable one. It can be a long wait for the van to take you to the airport, so don't park there if you are cutting it close. Roughly $10/day with AAA.

3. If really late, Park One Valet. Gets you to the airport fast, but expensive and open to the sky. About $20/day.

4. If going for > 10 days, I like to hire a car ($70 each way, more for return if international). This is very infrequent for me.

Given recent experience, I don't want to use Parking Spot next time. Any suggestions or further comments?

Since I'm almost always coming from the San Fernando Valley, I park at the Van Nuys Airport FlyAway lot ($4 a day+3.50 fare) and let their bus driver take care of the LAX-405 traffic nightmares... Or simply get a friend to drop me off for the bus.

Alternitively, I left my car in a different friend's driveway one block from a metro station, and took the Blue line to the Green line....then the free shuttles to my terminal. Cost was a MTA daypass ($3) on each end of the journey + a nice bottle of wine as a thank you gift. :)

You could always use Supershuttle, they can be as little as 11 each way depending on where you live. However, you have to be picked up very early and with a group of unknowns.
