Travel Technology - My Mac seems to be shrinking my MemoryStick capacity!

I've recently started using my girlfriends Mac (Powerbook G4) and have been uploading a large number of photos from it. Have been deleting the photos off the camera by means of the Mac as I upload them by 'Moving to Trash' but I have begun to notice the number of pictures available on my 64MB shrinking.

On the camera if you turn to show media currently on the memory stick it says nothing is on there but when you are about to take a picture it says only 55 1MP shots can be taken and the 'meter' is only half full  Also when I connect it to the laptop it says there is 34MB of space available on the Memory Stick :(

The deleted pictures don't seem to be found in the trash on the Mac...very confusing. Especially as I have done a similar thing on my Windows XP desktop in the UK with no problems.

All help and suggestions are most welcome
Thanks

Use the camera to reformat the card and see what happens. Also, I would suggest you stop usign the Mac to clear the memory card and simply re-format the card with the camera everytime you want' to clear out the card.

also, if you are comfortable with the terminal you can check the memory stick with an 'ls -ai' and see if there are any files that begin with a . that shoudln't be there (bearing in mind that there will always be a . and ..). look for things like .trash and .img_123.jpg etc.

It has to do with how the mac handles FAT formatted volumes.

Agree with both replies. I think formatting with the camera would do the job.

Bingo ^ Formatting the camera did the trick ^ 101 pics now :)

Thanks for the replies. I'm new to Macs so some of the terminology was lost on me :o

SpaceBass, I see another Richmond, VA resident present :) Only been here since 9/30 so still settling in...

It's all been covered, but I just wanted to reiterate that based on past experience I would not delete pics from a camera card using the Mac interface. Sometimes it works okay, sometimes it doesn't. It may be better now (in the past it was widely recommended to never do this), but out of habit I always delete pics using the camera. That is the safest.
