Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - Gulf Air - standby possible for overbooked fare code?
HI there,
I have a gulf air flight coupon but no reservation behind it. This happened when my travel agent waitlisted me for a date change and the waitlist failed with my original reservation staying cancelled.
It's fare code V and there are no flights available at that fare code before the the time validity ends.
If I just show up at the airport on a day where there's a gulf air flight with spare seats do you think they'll maybe let me on as a stand-by?
Anyone ever extended the validity date of a ticket?
Many thanks in advance for any insights!

Where are you flying from? - this may make all the difference. In some cases you may even be able to ensdorse it to another airline with the help from a good agent.

Apologies for being incomplete. It's the return part of a ticket from london to Singapore. So the part I would be trying to use is: SIN-BAH-LHR
It's a student rate ticket, the outbound sectors were in fare code L, and my return is in fare code V. Ticket validity is till Jan 6th but I won't be in Singapore till Dec 30th now.
I'm not expecting to have use of the ticket but given that I have an open return back from lon to singapore it would allow me to make a trip back to see friends & family in Jan. So I thought I might show up at the airport each day in early Jan and try my luck.
I can plead the unemployed poor student line + the fact that my TA shouldn't have left me with no reserved seat after I was unsuccessfully wait-listed on another flight. Slightly unfair on the TA as my original booking is for Dec 1st or something which I couldn't now fly anyway.

Hey,
im sorry but it looks unlikely to get seats. dec / jan is peak season, and it's usually very difficult to even get seats at full fare. I would recommend explaining this to your TA and get a refund for 1/2 your ticket if possible
Cheers

Yoo won't get a refund as a one way ticket is probably more expensive than what you apid for the roundtrip - resulting in no value being left in the ticket for this purpose. A good travel agent may be able to help sort it out. A well connectted agent may be able to find another (unpopular) carrier to take over the ticket.
Another option is to go to the gulf ticket office and see if you can pay extra to upgrade it into a fare class which still has seats available.

The one-way at the time of booking (jan 05) was almost half price. This is a special student fare.
There have been some very useful ideas here I should be able to run with - Many thanks!
Chatting them through with STA (my TA) and gulf sounds like a good thing. Not sure how easy either of those are when I'm sat in Argentina but will call around (thank you skype and free world-wide 0800 dialing).
