I am looking into booking a room at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport hotel. Has anyone stayed there and can give a brief report? Does the Club Lounge stay open on weekends? Do they have Sweet Sleeper yet? Platinum upgrade experiences?

Im also considering the Embassy Suites Charlotte, same price, Im Hilton Gold. Any comments??

Thanks!

Yeah -- this is a nice hotel -- and they do have the Sweet Sleeper Beds, at least on the Club Floor. As gold I was upgraded to it and never knew it had a club lounge so I can't comment on it. Got a 4pm late check-out and their restaurant's pretty good. Close to the airport andnot far from Southpark. Overall, it's an old hotel but the rooms are really nice. I stayed there around May of last yr and they had the new beds that early I'm guessing b/c the Westin still hadn't opened. If you need add'l info on this place lemme know

It's just an average Sheraton. Definitely check out the rates for the Westin in downtown...it's considerably nicer (brand new hotel).

If you can, stay at the Westin is the right answer. It is close to the airport, but don't feel it is close to South Park but that's me. I'd say 20 minutes to South Park actually. I had a crappy stay here several years back. I'm sure it is better now, but it just felt like a run down place. On the weekends, you'll of course be treated to wedding after wedding. I stayed on a Saturday as I recall and that's what I had.

I have stayed at both hotels, and you will enjoy the Westin 10 times more!

I stayed again at this property and it was so so. I had booked on the Club floor at a reasonable rate with club access for drinks and breakfast. At checkin I requested fruit and water along with 'gourmet' candies (think that was the word). They told me it would be 20 minutes for the Plat amenity.

Going to my room I noticed the Club was closed; bolted shut. I called down at 8:00 p.m. and was told the club hours were until 10:00. Walked down again, still locked.

Called back at 9:00 and said I'd like a rate reduction because of the Club being closed. I was told that the rate I checked in at had already been reduced by $20 and I was given the breakfast coupon as well...true.

I told them I'd like another $20 rate reduction and after some debating that was granted.

My amenity gift finally arrived around 10:00. One water, tons of fruit and the gourmet candy was a Snickers bar on a plate.

Not a bad hotel all in all, but the Westin blows it away. The Westin does not have a club however.

I stayed in both Hotel. The club lounge in the Sheraton was closed at weekend. After reklamation I got two vouchers for the bar and by check out the bill was not correct, because they charged breakfast. The pool was horrable. Take the Westin.

The pool? You don't like it being right inside the atrium of the lobby? I think all hotels should do that...four steps down from the bar is perfect if you like running obstacle courses after a few drinks.

Seasons Greetings,

Has anyone stayed at Sheraton Charlotte? Am Platinum, and appreciate any comments re:

1. Club Floor Lounge (if any)
2. Room furniture (new beds/TV, etc.)?
3. Pool and jacuzzi - Indoor or outdoor?
4. Airport shuttle?
5. Staff responsiveness

Thanks.

I've stayed here before for convenience before an early a.m. flight. It is a bit tired, but very convenient to the airport. There is nothing, literally nothing, walkable around this hotel. They have an airport shuttle and free parking.

1. Club floor - there is one but I've never seen it operational (open, but not operational) in the evening and have left before it opens in the a.m. A few times in the evening it was open, but completely unstocked. I received a food credit from the front desk due to this. I'd call them ahead of time to find out for sure what the status is.

2. The furnishings in the rooms are your standard Sheraton flare. Not bad, not fancy...just comfortable.

3. Indoor pool. In fact, it is practically in the lobby. It's kind of funny actually. I can't say about jacuzzi as I'm not a swimmer.

See above for airport shuttle. Staff always recognizes my status but there are no upgrades to be had save for the presidential suite, which really isn't that nice.

I stayed there a month or so ago. I got in late and left early. I'm Plat and they had me on the Club Floor in an end room (I never went to the Club though). The place isn't anything great, but for one night it was fine. Dingo did a great job of describing it.

Stayed four nights at the Westin Charlotte a few months ago and thought it was a great place. It's new, and as a Plat I was upgraded to the top floor during a sold out period.

It's two to three years old (Westin). Very nice, fairly pricey and not all that great in terms of location. You can walk to dining and bars, but it's a few blocks away. They have a nice bar and a so so restaurant in my opinion. This is the place where every time I stay there (ok, not that many now) they tell me I have been upgraded...to the room type I booked online. The Westin and Sheraton are two different animals. If you need to be by the airport I'd say go for the Sheraton, the Ren Suites or the Marriott. Sheraton is the closest but I believe all three have shuttles. If your business is downtown (uptown) make it the Westin. If budget minded and you want a *Wood night, Sheraton is your best bet.

And if airport location or lowest price are not critical, but a Starwood property is, remember that the Ballantyne Resort on the southern stretch of I-485 was recently made a Luxury Collection property. Rates typically ca. $159, with nice rooms, nicer bathrooms, and a golf course.

Dingo did a good job discribing this property. The pool and hot tub are practically in the lobby and the glass elevator looks upon it, if I remember correctly. The pool is actually both indoor AND outdoor with a passthrough to the outside portion. There are a couple photos of it on spg.com's Hotel Overview page for this property. One is funny because it's labelled "Pool" but looks to be the size of a large hot tub.

This property is appropriately a Category 2 property. Location is good for a stay before flying out of CLT, but it is not really close to downtown Charlotte.

The Ballantyne resort part of the Luxury Collection is almost brand new, 20 minues from the airport and has a Conde nast joahannsen rated Spa. Very convenient for those fly out quickly days.

I agree with sc flier. Only good thing about the Sheraton is that it is close to the airport. That's about it. As a plat, always got upgraded to club room but only difference is that sometimes, they throw in two bottle of water in the room. During the times they forgot to include the water, I went to the club room, turn on the lights, went to the fridge for the bottled water, and shut the lights out myself. The rooms facing the pool can be noisy since it is right above the HVAC units. For some reason beyond me, the club floor is on one of the lower floors.

Has anyone tried parking their car here (instead of at the airport lots) and taking the free shuttle to the airport? or are parking passes required?

Do you know if the club lounge is open for breakfast? Also, is parking free?

Last time I stayed there, club lounge was open for breakfast, parking was free and I remember seeing SPG designated parking spaces.

No upgrade, standard room with a very noisy AC.

Hotel is undergoing major renovations. No club currently, so we were given drink vouchers for the bar and two free breakfast buffets. Very nice.

I must have stayed at this hotel post-renovation, as the suite I was given looked like the new Standard Sheraton design. To me, it's a perfectly acceptable property these days.
