Travel Technology - How many e-mail accounts do you have?

UAVirgin's thread on Outlook 2003 problems and the subsequent replies of "I have 14 email accounts, they work fine!" made me want to ask a quick survey question. I work for a software company that builds e-mail applications for mobile devices, and i'm curious if it is common for people to have so many accounts, or is this just another curious flyertalk community demographic tic? My question is out of both personal and professional curiosity...

So - how many e-mail accounts do you have on Outlook? What % of your accounts are Exchange vs IMAP or POP? Or, do you even know the difference? And/or Yahoo, Hotmail or GMail?

Do you check all of them while travelling? How? Web mail or Blackberry-like device?

Thanks...

I only have 2 accounts on Outlook. One I don't care about when travelling, my work one, since I know that it gets forwarded to another person when I am away. The other one I check via webmail when gone from my work computer.

I have three e-mail accounts. I have a DSL account at work, which I know is POP. I have an e-mail account at home via my cable company and also a Yahoo account. I use my Yahoo e-mail for signing up for promotions, sweepstakes, and other possible sources of spam. The funny thing is that my Yahoo account receives zero spam and my other accounts receive more.

I think I would have a hard time managing more than 3 accounts.

3 addresses for domains I administer, all mail is redirected to a single account.
2 frequently checked IMAP accounts (mostly Thunderbird, occasionally pine)
~3 throwaway webmail accounts - mostly GMail

Then, for work, 3 accounts all on separate Exchange servers, 1 very often, 1 daily, 1 weekly.

Only 11. *sigh*

It has been said that Outlook isn't an e-mail application- it's a virus distrubution system with optional e-mail capabilities.

I have countless e-mail addresses available to me in popmail (multiple domains each with unlimited names; I assign names to different uses, they dump into the main box and then the filters in Eudora sort them as they come it- so by checking one address I'm actually checking ten at the same time)... 3 or 4 that are the primary ones which I check all the time, travelling or not. Most of those are also set up to work as webmail, so I can access them off other peoples computers.

Also yahoo, hotmail, gmail accounts used for specific purposes (registering on sites with uncertain privacy policies, on line shopping confirmations, and the like). Those might get checked once a week.

Also an assortment of others, like the boxes provided by my ISP, which I never use.

I have an ADSL account ("POP") at home, and a hotmail account for travel.

One Outlook account at work, accessed from my laptop. Two POP accounts accessed via Outlook at home. 12 web based accounts floating around, only one really used. Four are gmail variations of my name so I could lock them up. ;)

I guess I should reply to this one. :)

I have:
6 - Pop accounts all for separate domains
2 - Pop accounts for companies I do work for
3 - accounts (one each at) Yahoo, Gmail, hotmail
1 - forwarding account from an association
1 - unified messaging inbox

Those are the ones I remember and use regularly.

I have about four real POP/IMAP accounts and a whole slew (50+) of aliases that feed them. I use Eudora when at home and SquirrelMail/Gmail when on the road.

I have 3 that I use regularly, a few that I don't.

And am I the only one who keeps gmail accounts and yahoo IDs for my kids (3 and 6 yrs old) so that no one else gets them? Yeah, and I keep my last name reserved as a .com domain, just so my uncle won't get it.

I have never been quoted before. YAY!!

ok I guess this definitely requires my response. The accounts that I use on a daily basis are ...

1. Work Email (company that I work for)
2. Personal Email
3. Email in my name for a business that I run
4. Support email for business that I run
5. Sales email for business that I run
6. Email of Company 1 that I consult for.
7. Email of Company 2 that I consult for.

All the above are Pop and SMTP

Another Extra 7 are added since #$%^** COX Communications does not allow me to use my SMTP servers. So I have setup clone accounts of the above accounts with all using COX's SMTP server.

Other than the 14 thus I have
1. Hotmail - through Outlook. Still works for me although MS has announced they would stop this support
2. GMail
3. Simple SMTP accounts for aliases I use often for airlines, random registrations (and flyer talk) :)

I would think - actually hope - that I am an exception and not the norm. Cos it sure is a PITA to make sure I am disciplined not to use the wrong account to mail the wrong person!!

I work for a software company that builds e-mail applications for mobile devices

What I would really like is the capability of putting in multiple SMTP servers for each account in order of priority - only because of stupid restrictive COX! :)

Didnt answer this in my previous reply - yes I check them all - and prefer to use outlook with my laptop. Am not exactly that much in demand just yet that forces me to use a small mobile device such as blackberry. My Dell C400 does just fine!

Sorry guys I just realised I have 3 straight posts - should have probably just edited my first each time. :o

PITA = Pain In the A--.

I've got one at work, one at home for primary use. Then, I have my own domain, which I use for web-site related things, as well as an unlimited supply of spam-trap addresses.

I have 3 email accounts -- home, work and one that goes to my two-way pager. Work I can check from anywhere, outlook web access. my ISP is sorta backwards so I can't check it while travelling. and the pager is always with me.

So 4.

7.

1 from my university
1 for employment emails
1 for personal
1 for miscellaneous stuff

The other three I've left because spammers have caught on to the addresses.

I have:

1. Work
Through comcast:
2. Primary personal - friends/family only
3. "News" for newsletters, websites and other periodic things I might want to read
4. "Junk" for signing up for websites I know will create spam. I change it when things get out of control
5. "Shopping" for occasional purchases on ebay, overstock.com, etc. since they tend to generate ads.

6 & 7. Yahoo for customized home pages at work and home. Another potential inbox for spam.
8. Hotmail - used to use MSN messenger, not so much any more.
9. Webmaster for a website I run for a friends restaurant.

I only check 1-3 on a regular basis. Outlook will download my junk accounts on my home machine and automatically delete some spam. I will glance at the rest and delete it on occasion.

1. Work (Exchange)
2-4. Primary personal e-mail addresses (for friends and family)
5-6. Junk e-mails
7-10. Hotmail, Yahoo, GMail, Spymac
11-16. For various mailing lists I subscribe to
17. For travel-related e-mails
18. For e-mails from various on-line stores
19-25. Catch-alls for my other domains
26. For job boards

I use Outlook 2002 for #1, and Outlook Express (POP3) for the rest. I really want to use Thunderbird, but the filtering isn't as powerful as OE.

I'm not sure we are a typical audience :).

I have two gmail accounts, two hotmail accounts, one yahoo mail account, about 4 unix shell accounts with email and maybe a dozen domains with their mail pointed at me. I also make up new email addresses of manar-<domain-name-of-site>@... whenever I register for anything so I can't begin to imagine how many email address I have.

But it almost all filters through into one unix shell account with me collecting mail from there with pop. That and one gmail account are the accounts I check daily.

Wow, I only have:

1. Work-school
2. Gmail address, which is the one I use most often.
3. Two yahoo accounts, one for Flyertalk and the other that is just full of Spam but comes handy when I register for things online.

Personal (my own domain running on my own mailserver)
Gmail (to store stuff and get webby when needed)

Many - but one main work and one main personal. As I have my own personal domain, I tend to create addresses for specific things - like anytime a form wants an address. I append the name of the place into the email address & track where it goes. At the first sign of spam I delete the address.

In addition to four accounts that I have on closed systems, I have the following internet accounts:

- yahoo (family and friends)
- yahoo (online ID - TJQuill, used for message boards, etc...)
- hotmail (bank, brokerage, airlines, etc...)
- work
- work from another agency

I check all using web browser based access, typically from home computer or a laptop, but occasionally (and slowly) using my web enabled Nokia 9200 Communicator (which is a very cool phone).

2 on that home server
I use one for private use (friends/family) and one for web use (anything online that requires an e-mail address)... guess which gets spam and which doesn't?
1 work address
1 gmail (dont use, really just a google login ID)
1 yahoo (same as gmail, dont really check it)

Total:
5

I'm sure I have tons more that I don't even know about or care about... IE on my parents ISP from when it was MY ISP and I was in college (its been a while folks).... but I use my 2 home and 1 work account daily.
