Im thinking of buying a Thinkpad R50e, when is the best time of year to buy it? Are they cheaper around the holidays? Any idea on the best place to buy a Thinkpad and earn miles? Past experiences with this model?

Thanks!

Good question. With Lenovo purchasing the Thinkpad brand earlier this year, I'm not sure what sales scheme they might be utilizing; I bought a T42p earlier this year through their website and have had no problems so far. I paid with a Worldperks credit card to earn NWA miles.

I love my Thinkpad.

www.nextag.com is quite helpful, as it tracks the price of a product

To quote Len Bosack, founder of Cisco Systems, "It is never a good day to buy a computer." Meaning, that ultimately, whenever you buy, you will always find it cheaper somewhere else shortly thereafter. My advice would be, if you need it now, buy the machine and don't look back.

Office Depot is starting to carry ThinkPads again. Looks like some nice deals instore. They aren't reflected online yet.

According to Engadget, we'll be seeing $699 T42's in store...

Sounds like Lenovo is turning the thinkpad into a low cost brand...

Cant speak to thinkpads but since the title was more generic, we have bought the laptops we needed (all Dells) the last two years between thanksgiving and the 1st of the year and saved a CONSIDERABLE amount of money. The holidays work, back to school sales also work really well.

Well, Wal-Mart has a cheap H-P for $399, you can't beat that, depending, of course, on what you want to use it for.

Xmas and post-Xmas seem to be the most aggressive discounting periods. Laptops just seem to pack more and more into the fallen prices that have been around for the past few years. A buyer's market.

EXACTLY !!!!

If you need it = NOW !!!
If you don't = LATER !!!
