Asia - Advice needed: Racha Yai and Krabi

I will be in BKK at the end of the month for business and I'd like to travel down to the south for some R&R.
I particularly want to stay at The Racha on Racha Yai and then travel to Krabi and stay at the Tubkaak resort. I only have about 4-5 days to spare, so I was planning 2 nights at each property. I plan to fly into Phuket and fly out from Krabi.
I have chosen these properties as I d like to be away from the beach crowds as much as possible and spend time snorkeling and kayaking.
In your opinion, do you think it’s wise to split my stay between two places?
Is it easy to travel from Racha Yai to Krabi? Does anyone know how long it takes to travel and what options are available?
TIA

Racha Yai and Krabi are pretty far apart. You also have to get the boat travel times worked out from the Island to Phuket and then to Krabi. Racha Yai also has many day trippers to the island so the beaches are pretty crowded until 3 PM or so.

I wouldn't split the time between those two places, but would rather stay at one place for the four days, and plan on taking some day trips.

We're avid snorkellers and I can't recall that there was any snorkelling near the Tubkaak that didn't require a fair boat ride. You're right that is is far from the crowds - too far even for a phobic like me. It seems to limit your options too much. Rayavadee is probably better even though it's on one of the most popular - and beautiful - beaches in Krabi. At least you can get straight into a kayak or long-tail boat right on your doorstep.

Thank you for all your views.
I have decided to spend all my time on Koh Racha.
Does anyone recommend any interesting or fun day trips by boat from Koh Racha?

All round that Island is excellent for deep sea fishing with sailfish abound. Also Racha Noi has some good snorkeling. You might want to get on a fishing charter from Phuket and have them drop you off at Racha Yai when finished. My wife and I did that a few years ago. We caught and released the sailfish but kept the Tuna and the resort cooked it for us.
