ok. So its true. I been running XP for maybe 1.5 years without rebuilding the machine.

So for a long time now, I have not been able to put the machine in to standby/hibernation. I can do it, but then I get a BSOD when the machine trys to come back. Given that the boot times take forever and it also takes forever for outlook to startup, I really want to get this working.

It just kills me to have to restart all the time esp. when I just want to check a document in a lounge while waiting for a flight

So what can I do? Is there some cache file I can blow away? I've got like 1.5Gb free on the main C partition and the file needed for hibernation is like 600Mbs.

Why hibernate at all? Most machines will simply use their ACPI and let you put them to sleep. Hibernate is a crappy system... FWIW; it sounds like your hibernate file is corrupt, if I were you I'd turn off hibernate and delete the file. And then from now on just use the regular sleep mode.

Our IT staff is quite evangelical about telling people the evils of Hibernation and encouraging everyone to disable it, mainly due to the reliability (lack thereof) issues it can cause.

ok. No hibernation.

Sleep only semi works. Will get into it later as have to hop a flight to NRT.

Will check in again. Thanks!
