This is one of the more complex promotions that I've seen...

Alaska Airlines is partnering with Northwest Airlines to provide Mileage Plan members with an opportunity to earn up to 30,000 Bonus Miles! Register by December 16, 2005, and travel round trip from Portland on Northwest Airlines or connect in Portland to a Northwest operated flight for a round-trip journey.

You will receive 5,000 Bonus Miles after completion of your first paid domestic round trip or 10,000 Bonus Miles after your first paid international round trip. Your first round trip must be completed by December 16, 2005.

Then, receive 10,000 Bonus Miles for your second paid domestic round trip or 20,000 Bonus Miles for your second paid international round trip. Your second round trip must be completed by February 28, 2006, to qualify.

Really complex. Plus it excludes flights from Chicago, Newark, Washington, D.C., Boston, Miami, Orlando, and Dallas. Looks like they are trying to drum up traffic on PDX-NRT, which is not an encouraging sign.

I don't see any details in the terms and conditions for the flight that comes into PDX. Can that flight be a AS Codeshare (miles credited to AS)? Or does it have to be AS metal?

I assume it excludes those citys so as not to siphon business away from the AS operated flights.

Crud, just recently changed my SEA-PDX-HNL-PDX-SEA flight to SEA-LAX-HNL-SFO-SEA. :o

PDX-NRT seems to be $880 so not really a good opportunity for a mileage run. UA's fare was $788.

PDX-NRT = 4810 miles

The PDX-NRT run on NW came in really handy for me for an award ticket to BJS a few weeks ago. This simply wouldn't have been available without the PDX-NRT outbound segment, and QX award inventory for the SEA-PDX connection was no problem. If you're looking for an award to Asia, consider booking through PDX--NW's loss is your gain! :)

Finally something good about flying PDX-MSP-DLH in November and December. I was going to try a last-minute run on status with Continental, but I'll probably go with the sure thing here since I need one of these trips for status with Alaska anyway.

Dang it, I flew through PDX yesterday. I flew NW GUM-NRT-HNL-PDX then PDX-SEA on QX. I tried to register for the promo before the miles posted, but I see they already have cleared. Too bad I have had such poor internet the last month and missed this promo. Not sure from the rules if I would have qualified for the credit since it was on the return.

At least the trip put me into the MVP zone and I still have another 26K miles to fly before year end.
