In a few weeks I'm flying YVR-HKG-BKK. YVR-HKG is an award flight and HKG-BKK was purchased. All on Cathay.

I'm arriving in HKG at 8am and leaving for BKK at 2:45pm. I'm meeting someone arriving on another flight, hence the long layover. Will I need to clear customs? Can I just hang out in the CX lounge for 5 or 6 hours? What about my luggage?

Thanks for the help!

If you're happy to while away the time in the lounge (you are flying F/J or have OW status?) then you don't need to clear customs and your luggage can be checked straight through to BKK.

Haha... They do not mind you to stay there from 7am all the way thru to the last CX flight to depart. You can spend the time as looooooog as you like, as long as you don't feel boring etc... But you got a good lounge in HKG anyway, you can watch TV, surf on net, get work done, have a shower (oh yes, a must!), eat some noodles or sandwiches, read magazines or just have a nap there. Enjoy!!

as long as you don't feel boringor even "bored".

[Did the English deliberately teach all HK-ers -ing and -ed the wrong way round just so we could spot them in the dark or something?] :)

That's enough time to check out both The Wing and The Pier, though 5-6 hours in The Wing would be pretty easy especially if you have a wi-fi equipped laptop with you.

I can easily spend 5 to 6 hours in the Wing, especially when you factor in time for a nice shower, a meal, and time on wi-fi.
