I'm trying to help my elderly father book a room using Priceline. I want to pay for it for him, but I will not be travelling with him. I can't find this information anywhere on their website, and can't get them to answer the phone. Anyone know?

Yes, that's fine. The name on the reservation and the name on the card do not have to match.

Just make the bid with the reservation in his name and pay as usual with your credit card. If you use www.ebates.com you can also get a 3% rebate on your successful priceline bids.

Not a problem, the hotel itself will just see that the room and tax have been prepaid, but do keep in mind the hotel will insist the traveler present his own card for "incidental" charges to the room (phone, room service, etc.)

... or ID and sufficient cash deposit (as determined by the hotel staff).

Never had any trouble with my credit card being used to prepay for Priceline stays for someone else.

I've done this plenty of times with no problem.

I have a friend who went to check in Las Vegas. His son had booked the room on the son's card. The hotel demanded the same CC. Friend had to use cell and track down son at a gaming table in another hotel and have him cab the card over. The friend checking in is in his 60s, so it wasn't an age thing. May be just a Vegas thing. After hearing that I still book for family, but call the hotel and ask them to note the reservation accordingly. I've had no problems.

...that's funny. The hotel doesn't get the booker's CC. They get Priceline's own CC to pay for the room charges. Maybe the clerk didn't know what Priceline was and was looking for that CC? Wonder if your friend got double charged.
