Air New Zealand Air Points - LAX premium transit access for Gold/Gold Elites in Y

Hi all,

A new arrangement with LAX security authorities means that Gold and Gold Elites travelling in economy or premium economy, who are in transit on NZ1 and NZ2, will now be able to access the airside premium transit facility on a space available basis. This change is effective today.

Due to the size of the facility access for Koru Club members (in economy or premium economy) unfortunately still isn’t possible.

Does that apply to *A golds from other airlines as well, or just NZ's own?

That hasn't been specified, but I assume all *A Golds. Will try to get confirmation.

What about a Gold with a troop of children in tow?

Effective immediately, Gold Elite and Gold customers transiting LAX on NZ1 and NZ2 will be permitted to use the Premium transit facility on a space available basis (i.e. first come, first served) if they are travelling in Pacific Economy or Premium Pacific Economy.

Business Class customers will continue to have automatic entry to the Premium transit facility. They also continue to have the option of clearing Customs to access our International Lounge. The number of spaces available for Gold Elite and Gold customers in the premium transit facility will depend on how many Business Class passengers are using the premium transit facility as there are restrictions about the maximum number of people permitted in this area.

There is no change to the current policy that Gold Elite and Gold customers travelling in Economy Class are not permitted access to the International lounge whilst in transit on NZ1 and NZ2.This advisory from Air New Zealand seems to contradict the OPs posting.

Your right Kiwi Flyer,
Coffee mustn't have kicked in early enough - mistook Premium airside transit facility to mean the landside International Lounge :o

I wonder how they'll know how many spaces for Gold Airpoints members - they can't tell how J class pax will be clearing customs before hand ?

Not too worry. I thought maybe my coffee hadnt kicked in and missing something obvious.

Fairly easy to apply. Business class is off the a/c first and so will be first to go through the holding pen immigration. The "premium" (and I use that word in the loosest possible way) airside transit facility is right behind the immigration desks. When it is full (either keep a count or do a visual check) no more Gold or Gold Elite (or *Gold??) pax allowed through.

Personally, I wouldnt count on getting access unless travelling in business class. The last couple of times through the "premium" holding pen was chocker just with business class pax.

Also access to the pen is restricted to Gold Airpoints (that's one ground benefit they get over *G).

The entrance to the pen is right at the end of the airbridge so not too many econ could sneak ahead. Premium economy OTOH could easily be ahead of many business pax.

Was through 2 weeks ago & was not offered access.......(Of course having 3 kids in tow might explain it).

AirNZLad, the rules are silent onaccess for guests.....any comment?

I presume it depends on space. The premium pen is not very big.

Don't know to be honest......it didn't look full and thanks to being right up front and having kids we were through immigration very quick so the only people who beat us were Business & some PE.

Still would have thought that if they were going to sell this as a benefit of status they would have a word in the shell like.... :(
