I renewed my contract for one year and was able to move into this plan over the phone. Call back, United Airlines style ;) PremEx Nov 2, 05, 3:24 pm No way, whoever you spoke to lied. I renewed my contract for one year and was able to move into this plan over the phone. Call back, United Airlines style ;) I'm sure that's true. But it could be that they did this as they might consider a contract renewal as a sort of new account? Or they could have done it for you as a retention exception? Regardless, the web site does state (bolding theirs): Please note: Prices exclusive to T-Mobile.com and valid only with new service activation. ...so perhaps you got an exception made for you, rather than it being the rule? Or even got it as a mistake on the part of the agent? xyzzy Nov 2, 05, 3:25 pm ...so perhaps you got an exception made for you, rather than it being the rule? Or even got it as a mistake on the part of the agent? If your contract is up and you threaten to cancel you'll find that they'll often magically extend these "new customer only" promos to existing customers. FightingIlliniUAL Nov 2, 05, 4:44 pm Oh wow, sorry to doubt you Foady, PremEx and xyzzy. Well to give you a little background, I have been with T-Mobile since June 2004, renewed contract for a new plan in Jan 2005, thus my current contract would expire in Jan 2006. I called on Oct 31 and asked for the new plan and it was accepted. Interesting, its worth a try I guess! FightingIlliniUAL Nov 2, 05, 4:49 pm Wait, it seems as if every plan listed on tmobile.com has that very phrase listed! I know sometimes retailers post "online only" specials, but pretty much all the pricing that I've run into at tmobile.com have been honored on the phone. mbtmsu Nov 2, 05, 6:11 pm does anyone know the price after tax? i've heard tmobile has higher taxes. ScottC Nov 2, 05, 6:40 pm The trick with T-mobile is to first call them and see if they will offer it. BUT BEWARE: any "grandfathered" services will most likely not be included in your new plan (grandfathered services are those services you have, that no longer exist, promos you had when you signed up, cheaper roaming etc... Despite what they say, you will almost always lose then). If the regular rep can't help you, say "retentions" when you call back next time and tell them you want them to make you an offer you can't refuse, or else... :D ScottC Nov 2, 05, 6:41 pm does anyone know the price after tax? i've heard tmobile has higher taxes. Is different per state/county. A lot of the charges on your bill are local charges. I've never heard of T-mobile being higher than other operators. FightingIlliniUAL Nov 2, 05, 8:26 pm Is different per state/county. A lot of the charges on your bill are local charges. I've never heard of T-mobile being higher than other operators. My total monthly charges are $93.10 which includes the following, $45.99 1000 anytime, unlimited nights & weekens $2.99 300 text messages $6.99 unlimited mobile to mobile $19.99 unlimited data & email $75.96 total service charges therefore (93.10-75.86)/93.10 or about 21.5% of my total monthly bill goes toward taxes, fees, etc spmur Nov 3, 05, 11:18 am Here's a similar plan but without free night and weekend minutes -- just 1500 anytime minutes for $39.99. This plan would do the trick for me. Thinking of switching from Sprint. http://www.t-mobile.com/plans/NationalRatePlanDetails.asp?PlanID=6252 |
