Noticed that the delivery flight of the first 777 stopped in Nadi. Would have thought that with a (presumably) very light load, PAE-AKL would have been a breeze.

The 777 stopped off in NAN so that both Air NZ pilots onboard could log a takeoff and landing.

Just speculating, but probably also had something to do with having the new 777 arrive at a more "media friendly" time of day?

Indeed - airnzboy gave the answer, and then Reason077 engaged in a little speculation about deadlines and photo-op friendly times of day.

Thanks though for pointing it out to us.

It wouldn't seem very clever to have the aircraft arriving at a more media friendly time of day because it's also a more protester-friendly time of day...
