I'd be interested to get your thoughts on what the future of Delta's new Terminal A at Boston's Logan Airport will be, given their Chapter 11 restructuring.

How do you think the continued restructuring, including the recent announcement that Song will be folded in to Delta, will play out in the new $400 million facility?

Welcome to Flyertalk. :)

I'm personally hoping that DL downsizes its BOS operations sufficiently so that it and AA make a trade of their BOS space. AA gets a nice, new, large terminal and DL gets an older, cheaper (more affordable) terminal. :)

Terminal A is amazing. I flew in late last night on a Delta flight (my fifth flight in/out of the terminal) and began to question why I stick with AA for the majority of flights. I also wondered why AA, the carrier with the most flights out of BOS has such a small and disfunctional terminal, whereas Delta (second to AA in terms of number of flights) has an amazing terminal with lots of space, food options, and TAXIS (Always a problem coming out of the AA terminal).

From what I can tell, Delta planes seem to cleaner and more comfortable than some of the AA planes I have been on. Although I fly AA more and only fly Delta when I need to go to the Southeast, so I don't know if this is a fair comparison. I think Delta invested in the new terminal because they care about the customer experience and want to offer a better product. For example, have you ever noticed that the Atlanta aiport (pretty much all Delta as far as I can tell) is so much better than the AA terminals at ORD and DFW? I like the shops and restaurants at the Atlanta airport, whereas there is basically nothing at the main AA hubs (the Wolfgang Pucks restaurant at ORD is decent).

I am seriously considering switching to Delta for more of my flights next year.

Oh, and I read an article in the Boston Globe a while back about how Delta owns the rights to Terminal A through 2010 and Massport has no control over this Terminal. Delta tried to sell space to other carriers, but no one was interested. In the article, it sounded like there is nothing Massport can do and the ball is completely in Delta's court over this terminal so I doubt AA will be moving into Terminal A anytime soon unless they strike a deal with Delta. I doubt this happens because AA doesn't seem to spend a lot of money on its terminals and could care less about the fustrations of its BOS frequent flyers. In fact, the only way this will happen is if Delta truly goes under. I think Delta will survive. (I don't think Northwest will though and I can see AA taking over a lot of the NWA routes)
