ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines Inc., which is reorganizing under protection from the federal bankruptcy court, announced plans Friday to discontinue its discount carrier Song by May 2006 and incorporate Song's fleet into Delta's regular service.

In the interim, Delta plans to include first-class service on Song's 48 planes in an attempt to make the flights more attractive to business travelers and to conform with Delta's regular service.

The whole concept was pathetic. And Delta had already failed with "Delta Express" so why did they try Song?

Because there is *nobody* stupider than the legacy airlines. They have jumped like lemmings onto dumb concepts again and again...

Yes sir! It makes perfect sense to double your marketing expenses.
And even more sense to pretend to act like a low cast carrier without LCC expenses
With that said they did a lousy job as a premium carrier so kudos for trying something somewhat different. While I never flew them they really did a better job then TED (ugh) One of the top ten reasons I left UA

The problem with Song and TED, just like DL and UA Shuttle, were that they only added seats and then capped the fares those seats could be sold at. The operating costs were exactly the same across the board and with the elimination of the "extortion fares" to match WN's $300 maximum, you probably tossed thousands in revenue on each flight from business passengers who were willing to be bent over the counter for a $1300 walk-up fare cause they had no choice, but now are delighted they only had to pay $300.
