I did a search on the Hilton d'Haiti and haven't seen anything newer than 2003. Has anybody heard anything about the status on this? Last time I was in Port-au-Prince (earlier this year) there was a construction site with a half-finished building and a sign that said "Hilton d'Haiti, coming soon." From the brief glance I saw at the half-finished building on the way from the airport, though, it didn't look like any work had been done on it for a while.

Did they just abandon it b/c of the continued instability there? Is there an ETA for opening? Just curious, more than anything, but it would be a nice option if it were open

After a few minutes of googling, it looks like the plug was pulled on the project in 2003. Looks like its the Hotel Montana (http://www.htmontana.com/) again for me next week...

Ah yes, the Hotel Montana.

I'm still kicking myself for being too cheap to spend $200 on one of the wooden carved statues in the gift shop last year. Very nice work.

PAP is unfortunately not my favourite place in the world, but it's got a decent bar and may be the safest hotel in town, as it's full of UN troops. When I was there is was home to the UN peacekeeping command.

That is a troubled place, what a shame.

Well, it's better than Liberia at any rate...
