Welcome to Flyertalk. As a suggestion, you might get better responses to your question, if you use a more descriptive title for your thread.
Keep track of the various Marriott platinum offers when you sign in to the website and then click on Marriott Rewards. Charge all incidentals to your room at full service properties as you earn your platinum bonus on your entire hotel bill.

For me, the most valuable benefit of Plat status is lounge access, and you had that on your way up as a gold.
The 48 hour guarantee can be huge, but it only helps you if you are wanting to stay at a sold out property and willing to pay standard/rack rates.
I suppose you could maximize your points by switching nightly between properties to rack up the 500 pont arrival gifts, but IMO that's not worth the hassle.
But do watch this forum for discussions of promotions. As a Platinum, you can usually call and get enrolled, even if you were not originally targeted.

This option is open also to simple gold members. I know because I used it and I'm no Plat since a long time, even if I could end my year as Plat but the real reason is the double point promotion if paying with Visa.
