On an August Delta cross-country flight I attempted to get my family member's mileage posted to AF. The Delta people at check -in were confused, baffeled and sure that this was not possible. Even after a conversation with a supervisor in which he said that it was all taken care of, the mileage was never posted to AF. (Though it did show up in our Delta accounts). I've got another Delta cross country flight in a week and wonder if anyone has advice on not having a repeat of this idiocy. Since a move to elite level for my husband is at stake, I hope one of you has an idea about how to handle this.

you can get either Delta or AF Miles, sounds like the reservation had you SM# in. I have never had any issues with Delta miles, I call the customer service after purchasing the ticket ( no option to put in other ST #s online) and have them add my AF number; miles post w/o problem. Once you have them on your Sky Miles account, there is probably no way to get them to AF. I would call before the flight, have the SM# removed and the FB# added and check afterwards on checkmytrip that the change worked.

Because of issues like this I now never buy a ticket on a partner airline while logged into their website if I want FB credit. It is too much trouble to get them to change the account number later, and even when they say it is done, many times the miles still show up in the wrong account.

In the future it might be best to make sure you are logged out of your Delta account before making the purchase online so that no FF # is on your ticket. Then call later and have them add your FB number.

(By the way, while Delta still makes you call in to do this, Continental now has a FB choice when making your purchase that works correctly and I think even registers elite status)

The CO site does register the Elite status with KL/AF, otherwise you couldn't book priority seating. The Delta booking engine is even worse than KL/AF, and this is hard to beat :D . I agree that leaving out the Delta # from the beginning and calling in later on is definitely the best strategy.

Both CO and NW work flawlessly in this regard. Just enter your flying blue number and enjoy the kind of web service we can only dream about on AF or KL.
However, on NW make sure your name on the reservation matches exactly the name on the flying blue account (including American nonsense of middle initials) or the elite status will not transfer.

actually, just out of curiosity I entered my FB number in the nwa.com reservation of a colleague. It showed Elite Plus and we could select priority seating :D . You change it later and keep your nice seats. No idea why this worked, even the nice NW site has some bugs.

Apparently it can work both ways. I spent 2 hours on the phone with NW, KL and FB extracting extraneous middle initials so I could select me seats....

I am struggling to get DL miles posted into AF/KL FB. The checkin staff goofed-up and removed the FQTV info when I asked for seat re-assignment. Its been a month now. I have already sent my bp and ticket jacket.

Still no miles posted so far :(

Thanks for your suggestions. I've called Delta and asked them to list our AF numbers in the computer. I'll let you know when I get back if it works.

I would check the reservation on checkmytrip, the FQTV info is usually listed, don't believe anything Delta is trying to sell you :D . I just booked a ticket for FRA-JFK-LGA-BOS; 1hr connection in NYC, never is this going to work, unless Delta has a helicopter service :D ; the agent on the phone claimed it would work  . Well I'll wait until the possible flights are full and then push them for a re-route through ATL (some extra miles :D , and no JFK-LGA trip ^ ).

Joan, hope everything posts to your Flying Blue account without a hitch.

Just a reminder that, if for some reason your mileage fails to post, you need to mail (not fax) your original boarding passes and ticket receipts to FB Customer service to get credited. Copies are not accepted anymore for SkyTeam partners and, if sent, will simply delay things.

I have had several DL flights post successfully to my FB account, as mentioned above, I have made reservations on the DL site without having a Skymiles number in the reservation. I have then added my FB number using the self check in machines.

If there is already a Skymiles number on the reservation someone else may be able to comment on whether the option to ammend Freq Flyer details is given with self check in as this may be a way for you to make the change yourself

As a lowly Ivory the fact that my reservation has no status isn't an issue ;-)

I just called Delta and had them add my FB # to my reservation, or so they said. I just checked the reservation online and there is no sign of it being added. Shouldn't it show up on the reservation if they have actaully added it?

no, it doesn't show up on delta.com :td: . ST should force Delta (and AF/KL) to upgrade their booking process.

I can second that. If the Delta agent has entered the # correctly, it will print on the BP and miles credit faster than for KL flights ;) . So far I had no issues with DL flights but if there is any problem, I would like to know since I have 6 segments on DL coming up.

In the latest issue of their Flying Dutchman magazine (yes, it is still called Flying Dutchman!), there is a Flying Blue Q&A article on page 9. In answer to the question "how can I claim FB miles retroactively" they explicitly state that you should send in copies of your documents. For good measure they say so twice!

"De Miles van overige bij SkyTeam aangesloten luchtvaartmaatschappijen kunt u . . . per post claimen. Vergeet niet om bewijsstukken van de vlucht mee te sturen. Voor een papieren ticket zijn dat kopieën van de instapkaarten en ticketomslagen of passagierscoupons. Bij een e-ticket stuurt u ook kopieën"

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Before my flight I called Delta twice to confirm that my miles would go to FB. I asked again at check-in. All the miles appeared on my FB account within 2 days including my "Specil Club Bonus" miles! However, next time I book a Delta flight online, I will be sure to erase my Delta FF number so that my FB number will be easier to drop in later.

They really don't know what they want. Can anybody confirm this? I thought you send copies or fax it if it is a KL/AF flight, but it is a partner flight you have to send in the originals.
