MoreMilesPlease Oct 24, 05, 2:58 pm Whatever you do , do not stay at the Hampton Inn Midtown! Donna D Oct 25, 05, 11:54 am I stayed there for a few days - the hotel was great EXCEPT they had the most incredibly awful pillows I have ever experienced at a hotel. I even overheard someone else on the elevator complaining about them. That was a few years ago, so hopefully they have something better now. BostonTravel Oct 28, 05, 2:38 pm I hope they changed them by now <grin> I'll let you know when I get back! I want Treats Hilton and no tricks :-) craz Oct 28, 05, 3:21 pm I hope they changed them by now <grin> I'll let you know when I get back! I want Treats Hilton and no tricks :-) theres a DT that is really nice, dont know about the rates, and its also just across the street from the River as the HI is. love2win Oct 29, 05, 2:51 am theres a DT that is really nice, dont know about the rates, and its also just across the street from the River as the HI is. I have reservations in mid Nov at the DT and I was wondering if it was a good hotel, it's nice to know that it is ..... :) travelnurse Oct 29, 05, 7:02 pm Avoid the HI at mid-town, noisy older property away from the fun. For just lodging the HI on I-95 North is good, new property with upgraded beds. Lots of inexpensive restaurant choices serving local seafood. The historic area is never really safe. Be aware of recent muggings and walk in groups after dark. Enjoy your holiday. jkm024 May 30, 06, 10:30 am Does anyone know approximately how much a cab would cost to get from this location (the Hampton Inn - Historic District) to the Hilton Garden Inn out by the airport? Thanks! BamaVol Jul 3, 06, 9:37 pm Just got back from a 1 night stay at the Hampton Savannah Historic District. Very nicely located in the heart of things. We had a corner room on the 5th floor. The view included the river, bridge and Bay Street. Any lower, and the river would have been lost from view. The room was very large; king bed, couch, fridge & microwave and a fair amount of open space. Parking was advertised at $10, but the barricades have been removed and I was not charged. There is a cash bar in the lobby in the evening - unusual for a Hampton. The building is new, but was constructed with recycled bricks and flooring. It feels old. Down sides: The hotel was packed for the holiday weekend. The common areas cannot manage at capacity. The wait for an elevator was lengthy and several times I refused to enter one that was full to the edge. There are not enough tables and chairs for breakfast. Pathetic water pressure. Not anyone's fault, but Savannah is no place to be in July. Temps were in the high 90's and low 100's. At least the many shady squares provide some relief. Had a great meal and beers at the local brewpub - Moon River Brewing. They brew one of the best wheat beers I've tasted. I may have had one too many, though. Good barbeque as well.
