I did a basic search before someone replies and says do a search. :D

I want to book a trip next April and upgrade using my PMUs. Now technically i qualified for PM last December, so the PMUs they sent me expire this December. Can I use those PMUs to upgrade my flights next april? I guess I would have to go ahead and turn them in advance or can I even do that? I should requalify for PM again this year, so I'm assuming we'll get more next year - it would just be nice to use some expiring ones.. :)

You can turn them in early and have the booking confirmed in Z. Just try to get your dates right so you don't have to make voluntary changes.

In short, the key to keeping PMUs for another day is "parking" them into refundable reservations. Then, when you find a trip you really want to use the parked PMU on, you can cancel the existing trip (and get a refund, or apply money to another ticket) and move the PMU to the new trip.

I had a set of PMUs parked on a domestic itinerary, and cancelled it and changed it over to a a DL LGW flight, moved the PMUs over and flew BusinessElite to London and back.

Of course the other best route, if possible is to go ahead and plan your PMU trip now - with no future changes, and lock it down on your calendar. Then turn the PMUs in at the airport - so long as it is before the expiration date on your PMU. You could make a special trip to the airport, or easier just turn them in at a delta counter and have the agent apply them during an existing DL trip which you may be taking.

I didn't want to start another thread with a similar question, but I don't know what to do with my PMU's. I fly weekly, but my company always buys non-refundable LUT fares, which I understand you can't redeem PMU's for. I don't have any leisure trips planned except for the DO in Boca Raton, but even those trips were paid for by my company. So what do I do with these PMU's that I can't use?

Basically, line the bottom of the birdcage. Unlike AA and UA, DL does not allow you to transfer PMUs to another person; even an immediate family member.

I've also trashed most of my PMU's every year so join the club. The only useful things I've been able to do with them is to use them for a lower upgradeable fare to Europe or to upgrade Mrs. Cholula to Hawaii.
If you're not planning on either of these this year, you may be out of luck.
They do make very good cat box liners BTW.

As I stated before, cough up the money for a HKQ ticket or above for next year somewhere - maybe a vacation for you and the spouse, etc. If you're going international, you'll need to book tickets in Y,B or M fare classes.

If you have no travel planned, and are not planning on shelling out any of your own dough for future trips which can be confirmed with the PMUS, then basically they are going to be worthless to you..

If only DL wouls make them PMU's transferrable, I could find a good use for them.

This is a big complaint of mine. I would love to get more PMUs through trading as I've always gone through my 6 very quickly.

After DL discontinued PM upgrades at time of booking for HQK fares, I was using my PMU's to upgrade these fares rather than enter the upgrade lottery.
But you can burn through a whole year's worth in less than a month by doing this. I suspect that's what vasantn is doing with his.

Last year (in 2005) when I qualified for PM I received 6 PMUs in my PM fulfillment "kit". Now that I have already requalified (in 2006) for PM (through the end of February 2008) when should I expect to receive the next stack of PMUs? Some time early in 2007?

No, you will receive them very soon and they will be good only for a year. :td:

Thanks a lot for the information.

Receiving PMUs so soon and then having them good only for a year is truly PM-unfriendly. As things would seem to stand -- if I understand correctly and the fulfillment happens this month -- my next batch of PMUs won't even cover me for more than a single month of my 2007 PM status. :(

Does Delta really want people to AVOID qualifying/requalifying for PM quickly by not going beyond the 75k MQM marker? This seems to send the message that PMs and those who are pursuing PM status should game the DL system.

I guess this may require me to try to have flight segments removed from my Delta statement and then requesting retroactive mileage credit later this year. :td: :td:
