Staying at the Scottsdale Doubletree next week. Web site list "honor bar" in rooms. Is this the same as a stocked min-bar? Are you able to remove items, then replace them before housekeeping does their inventory? I have a late flight in an a cold one would be welcome upon arrival, I heard there are no stores in the area. Anyone familiar with these points?

I have never stayed at the Scottsdael DT, but I beleive an Honor Bar and a mini-bar are the same thing. I guess you could replace items before they took the inventory, I have never tried that. Some mini-bars have sensors that detect whenever an item is removed.

That's dirty pool.

I would most certainly contest a charge to my bill for simply moving a mini-bar item. I rarely consume anything in the mini-bar, but occasionally pull out a can and slip my daughter's milk in there. Fortunately, nobody's ever tried to charge me for that!

(I guess the front desk could claim that I "skunked" a beer or coke by letting it get warm and then putting it back in the fridge. But is it really possible to skunk a Bud Light? I thought that stuff came pre-skunked.)

You can simply request for them to remove the content of the minibar. Then it's all yours.

An Honor Bar is the same as Mini Bar. It is sometimes called an Honor bar because the hotel leaves it up to you to tell them what you have consumed. There is usually a slip somewhere in the room for you to fill out.

As for the automaticly charging you. This is just the way some hotels keep track of what you have taken. There are sensors in the Mini Bar, when an item is removed the sensor is linked to a price that matched the item you removed.

With this said, I have always thought the price for Alcohol from a Mini Bar was pretty fair. It is usually around $4.00US for a beer. If I went down to the bar in the lobby I would pay at least that plus tip.

I had one of those autocharging ones in the DT TS.

It got unplugged accidently, and I took a few drinks. BUt they never showed on my bill. Who knew!

Theres a AJs supermarket just north of the DT on Scottsdale Rd and Lincoln. And a Safeway a few miles north of AJs on Scottsdale Rd and Shea.

Thanks for the info, is the AJ's within walking distance? I never get a rental car until day 2, (just makes sense after a cross-country, multi-connection trip, too many airport bars to have killed time in!). I'll be on foot for that first night, just wondering...

Yeah, the mini-bars at the Novotel Hotel in Montreal have sensors. I stayed there a few weekends ago for a concert and we took everything out of the mini-bar to put our own beer into the fridge. Well, when we checked out we had a huge mini-bar charge because the mini-bar had one of those sensor things. Luckily Novotel refunded the charges (since we put everything back into the fridge). So look out for the mini-bars with sensors!
