Hertz - Car Size Question
Over the summer, I am going to be taking a family trip, It will be 6 adults going plus the luggage for a weeks vacation. We will be going to Myrtle Beach, so I will be picking up at MYR.
I was just curious as to what type of car I will have to get.
Thanks,
Ryan

For 6 adults? Is this a serious question?
If so, I'd agree that a minivan is probably your only choice to ride comfortably. Even then, with luggage you are going to have to pack it full.
Have fun.
I was thinking the Minivan was going to be it, but how bout the Expedition? Also, could I get the Explorer with the 3rd row and get away with that? Which of those 2 cars have the most luggage space and comfort?

Explorer with 3rd row seating will not be enough. There is almost no luggage room after the 3rd row is unfolded.
Haven't driven the other SUVs

Expedition would also suffice; Explorer would not (rated for only five adults).

Expedition/Navigator should be okay for 6, although the minivan generally rents for less and should get better gas mileage. The SUVs might actually have a bit more luggage room left, but I don't think that's significant. I'd go with the minivan.

The Navigator has absolutely zilch luggage space with the third row up.
Same with the Explorer (assuming Hertz offers the third row - I have only seen two row units).
I'd recommend the Minivan if you're not taking a ton of luggage. If all six have a standard carry-on, for example, you can stack em.
If everyone is bringing a huge suitcase, then the Excursion will be plenty, but it's going to be huge - the thing is 19 feet long.

Guess I'm wrong about the Expedition/Navigator then. I highly recommend you cram yourself into the minivan and not think you need the Excursion. Hell, I'd rent a 15-passenger full-sized van before the Excursion. 15-pax van would have enough space for 6 of you and some furniture in the back. :D
Interesting, why can't you rent a full-sized van anyway? Don't they still make the shorter full-size vans in passenger configs? Or is it only the super long 15-pax ones they still make with seats? I don't think Hertz carries either, anyway. Been several years now, but I have been able to rent 15-pax vans from other rental companies (I think Budget and/or Dollar and/or Thrifty).
OK, Minivan it is.
What models do Hertz rent out,
what equipment do they have in the models?
Thanks,
Ryan

This Hertz page (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/byr/index.jsp?targetPage=vehicleGuideTypeView.jsp&vType=4WD%2FAWD%2FMinivan&leftNavUserSelection=globNav_3_2_2)lists the available 4WD/AWD/Minivan vehicles if you are renting at the Myrtle Beach Jetport Road location.

I don't think you need room for 8, but sounds like you will have luggage. As others have suggested,
1. Minivan
2. Expedition
3. Excursion.
Some locations may have a suburban which is a better option than the Excursion. In terms of gas mileage the Excursion/Suburban are on par (equally poor, iirc 8-11 mpg).
