Hey,

Does anyone have any idea on why LH removed the PTV's from the A310's it purchased from EK? It would have presumably been cheaper to keep the existing seats and just remove the Business class seats to get its all economy class layout.

I assume you're referring to 2 A300 (not A310) that LH bought from Emirates. As all A300 are flying only short haul/high volume routes within europe now they have 100 % narrow domestic/continental economy seating, there's no chance for any PTV on these aircrafts.

The AB3s got completely reconfigured in Hamburg after they were purchased by LH. Beside the obvious change in layout, LH believes the additional weight and mainatince costs of IFE systems in Y are not required to keep market share.

I am glad that they refubished the planes.
When you compare the EK and the LH eco
only the PTV goes to EK.
The seats are some narrower and a lot more uncomfortable.
I would ever prefer an LH-Eco seat w/o PTV over an EK seat with PTV.
Eco in EK - Never again!

Really?

With the exception of the slightly narrow seats on the 777 aircraft, I have found EK's seats to be much better

EK Y in 332 is better if not equal to the LH 343 seats. EK 777 seats are very narrow and horrible, especially if you are stuck in the middle seat. EK 345 I have not experienced yet. The new longhaul EK 772 hopefully are a bit better, since they plan to deploy them on their prestigious JFK-DXB route.

With the exception of the PTV sizes, the 332 Y, 310 Y and AB3 Y are very similar (in terms of seat width, pitch etc)

Unfortunately the 3x4x3 layout remains on the reconfigured 772's. The planes will have ICE (the 500 channel IFE) and new F/J seats.

I believe part of the reason they are flying the 772 on this route is because of demand
