Hertz - Playing MP3s in a Taurus...

OK,
I'm renting a car or a weekend roadtrip, and I ALWAYS get a Taurus (regardless of what I reserve...I either get upgraded to a Taurus, or they have no available upgrades from Taurus  ), so I'm planning on that. Since I'll be in the car so long, I'd like to burn a few CDs of MP3s, and I'd prefer to use data formatted CDs to fit more on. Can Tauruses play data CDs with MP3s on them? Or just an audio-format CD?
Heck, will they even plan burned CDs, or will I have to use only store bought CDs? (I'm pretty sure I've done this in the past).
Thanks in advance!!

They work fine with CD-Rs.
Never tried an MP3 data CD, and the options list doesn't mention the CD players read them, so I would say that is a "no".
The taurus doesn't have an MP3 CD player, but the new Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego do. You might want to ask about those.

Most of the newer, higher-end Chrysler vehicles these days will play MP3 CDs. But I can't recall the last time I saw a Mopar on a Hertz lot (on the other hand, Dollar and some other rental companies have tons of 'em).

A lot of the newer Fords I've been in have AUX inputs where you could plug in a MP3 player using a 1/8" stereo miniplug patch cord. (OT, but I have a Monster FM transmitter for my iPod and can safely tell you it's about the biggest waste of 70 bucks I've ever made. Constant interference and there are no major metropolitan areas that don't have a useable FM station on all the freqs it can transmit on).

A little off-topic, but I bring along a cassette adapter to plug into my mp3 player's headphone jack for those times when I'm stuck in a ghetto compact with no cd player and have to drive long distance.

It's been a while since I've seen a Hertz vehicle with only a cassette player. Sometimes there will be a cassette deck in addition to a CD player, but I haven't seen a cassette-only deck in at least a year.

I just finished driving another Ford 500 last week with "CD 6 MP3" designated on the radio. I scoured the owners manual and I could not find any reference to how to work the MP3 feature. I also could notfind an input jack. Anyone?

I would take that to mean that the deck can read binary-encoded MP3 files directly off a CD-R, as opposed to a music CD.

Sounds logical to me.
Thanks!

No clue about that specific car, but IIRC in some cars it's in the glove box.
