bmi diamond club - New BD survey - Are they in a panic ?!?

Going to BD website, a new survey popped up ! (Its quite a long one, btw.)

I entered 10,000 times, btw !!! :p :D

And the questions are very interesting indeed - are they in a panic/thinking of changing the 'enhancements' I wonder ?!? :)

One question in particular got my attention -

When you travel on business, apart from route, what are the key factors that influence your airline choice? (Select all that apply)

1) Inflight catering

2) Convenient schedule

3) Lowest price

4) Flexibility of ticket

5) Ease of booking process

6) Frequent flyer scheme benefits

7) Other

I voted as indicated (just 1 and 6, to make sure these two points are emphasised to BD management), and hope you all do too, a few hundred of these and we might get back to the old BMI !

It also asked how many times I have visited BD and BA etc websites recently, and how many times I have booked on them - I made it very clear that in the last few months I have moved all my business to BA and have not booked on the flybmi.com once. They also ask 'Why', and I made my opinions on that clear too !

Maybe this real survey may get the truth of what they are doing to their airline into these idiots heads. I won't however be holding my breath.

Me neither... but it's probably my pop-up blocker...

I'm not getting a pop-up blocker warning, even.

Sometimes clearing your bmi cookies can help.

So, they design a survey to see if their website is crap or not. Then they make it a pop-up. A large proportion of the web savvy punters who visit the site, and would be able to make a constructive comment, have pop-up and junk filters on their machines.

So - is it:

a) bmi are incompetent

b) bmi are ensuring they only get the target market to answer the questionnaire (not heard of that before)

c) both a and b

d) by a they are achieving b?

Send an email with your answer to phishers@scam.com, not forgetting a scan of your credit card and your mother’s maiden name to confirm your identity.

I got the pop-up, and have filled it in the questionnaire. (Pronounced "kestionnaire", of course, for disciples of Ian Hislop.)

Most of it concentrates on the functionality and use of the flybmi.com website, although as noted there is a question looking at what elements of the flight service are attractive - you know how to answer!

Even on the website side there is a an opportunity to suggest specific improvements - OLCI and ability to book particular fare classes, in my case.

I take it the DC one offering 1000 miles hasn't reappeared then..!

Would like to put in my two cents as I utilise BD's services, but turned off pop-up blocker, cleared cookies and still no joy. Any other suggestions? Try other country sites other than UK?

Like many others here, these two cents I'd give are to help BD to realise 'to get back on the right track'. :D

I suspect it is one of those ones that only appears on a certain amount of hits - hey, it may even be targetting particular visitors. So may be a bit hit amd miss.

This is why anyway I posted many of the questions, just in case this happened and many of you did not get to see it.

Thank you AS-H! As proven in your past posts, once again you try to help others on this forum.

Scary, but if it is a survey, why would they target? Shouldn't they have a section of the survey to indicate your preferences/profile? More so, shouldn't it be random? Reducing the amount of N can only weaken the probably closest sentiment of BD flyers out there and thus help BD to act accordingly. I guess their administrative think-tank is influencing their R&D section as well. :D

More so, shouldn't it be random?Well, the conspiracy theorist in me (fuelled as he was by the recent BD actions etc !) wondered whether they had made note of the IDs/IPs of their Golds and Silvers, and the survey popped up on their screens when went back to the site ! But I have no idea whether they can practically do this, so may just be complete paranoia on my part !!!

Cos if BD have any sense they should be trying very hard right now to find out why so many of the Gs and Ss have fled the airline since the changes kicked in. Did it pop-up for any of you who are not DC G or S ?

I've managed to get the survey and found the first question is typical of bmi;

On this visit, specifically what did you come to flybmi.com to do?
(Select all that apply)
Redeem miles/rewards using Frequent Flyer Programme
Check-in online for a flight

Are they expecting some customers to have gone to the website to check-in online and be dissapointed, or do they not know they don't offer that service ?

I've had it and I'm not a DC member. It is more about the website than the service offering but I did my best to comment on the current service offering at every opportunity. I've also had almost the same survey on the BA site in the past.

It did occur to me that maybe random pop-ups were how they surveyed 10000 people - as you can relate the survey to particular websites, perhaps it was to something totally irrelevant on the other side of the world

Just went back to the BD website and pressed the 'go' button on IE6 over and over again until the survey popped up.
Load of b*ll)(*ks I say ... but did put in my two cents - even though none of it was about the company - just directed answers towards the flybmi.com website. Hope they listen.

Are they expecting some customers to have gone to the website to check-in online and be dissapointed, or do they not know they don't offer that service ?

Two possible explanations:

1. They are doing the survey on the cheap and so have asked the agency (who do these surveys for other airlines too) to use a standard template with little/no customisation; or

2. The online check-in questions (and others that refer to non-existent services or functionality) are there to catch people out. The survey will be as interested in what people THINK as in what is provided. If people are so confused about the bmi brand that they think it offers online check-in then what does that say?

Of course, the survey, like any survey, will be capable of endless reinterpretation and no doubt get used by each faction within Donnington Hall to justify soldiering on / an about turn / a radical change to all-business class / hitting the exit button and selling out to Lufthansa...

Appears to write a cookie to say you've had the survey (anyone had it more than once without clearing cookies ?) so if your pop-up blocker gets it first time round, even turning this off for the site doesn't bring it up. You have to clear cookies as well. And then it seems to be about 1 in 10 hits.

Bad survey. Some questions obviously customised for BMI (eg which FF schemes are you a member of), others not, generic US market ones. Being based in the US it will certainly be cheap for BMI though compared to UK survey organisations. Hey ho, you get what you pay for.

Glad to see the $100 prize will have 30% withheld for tax under US law

UA, VS and BD all have surveys on at the moment, or at least each of them did when I tried them today - it must be that time of year again!

I didn't bother with this survey - you wonder how they try to skew the results just by what they offer to complete - someone reacting to the chance of a small cash prize, is bound to be a difft. kettle of fish from someone wanting a few miles to top-up their account & hit their target for Las Vegas in biz.

Novartis seem to be running a 95% identical survey for BA and bmi at the moment. I have ensured I have selctively answered both in such a way to highlight each other's weaknesses. That way I hope that both bmi and BA improve. IMO there is NO airline out there that has a REALLY GOOD website! :(

Just answered the BMI survey.

Can I ask that people add in Air Berlin as an alternative carrier? - at the moment BMI are ignoring the fact that there is a LCC that offers free food onboard, that has a mileage scheme and allows those with status to carry an additional 10kgs aboard.

I've forsaken BMI on the London-Alicante route and use Air Monarch & Air Berlin instead.

There's far more REAL competition from these companies than there is from ANA, Thai or some of the other companies they're using for comparison purposes.

By entering AirBerlin hopefully BMI will realise that going LCC isn't always a degrading experience that they are obliged to replicate.
