Starwood Preferred Guest - SPG Platinum Amex

Hi,
I just got my SPG Platinum AMEX.
Seems like a confusing name... Both the Amex Platinum, and the SPG Platinum would be nice to have, but I have neither. You'd think they'd name it something other than Platinum to avoid confusion with an SPG platinum account, and AMEX Platinum card. I'm only SPG gold. Anyone else feel the same?

Not really, since one is a co-branded credit card sorta like VISA Platinum credit cards, and the other is a charge card.
I rarely see people refer to the SPG AMEX as the SPG Platinum card, just SPG AMEX, online when I check my account it just says "Starwood Preferred Guess" card.

Btw do you have the SPG amex? You just got one, but have neither.

See what I mean? Causes some confusion :) I have the SPG Amex but neither the AMEX Platinum nor the SPG Platinum, so I'm asking myself why the card says platinum.
What I first thought when I opened the envelope was that SPG had upgraded me to platinum, then I noticed the AMEX, and remembered I'd applied to the SPG amex, then I wondered whether SPG Amex holders get free spg platinum, then I wondered whether this card had the same benefits as the AMEX platinum... heh... Too damn confusing. Admittedly it only took a minute of thinking to rationalize it all out and come to the conclusion that this was just a stupid marketing mistake by SPG, then I wondered whether I was the only one to think so.

Ok I got what you're saying. The problem is one is a charge card and one is status within a program. Being used in the same sentence, I thought your question was dealing with if it were confusing with the Amex Platinum Credit Card and Charge card instead of confusing it with Platinum Status.
While not platinum status, it can sure add the points to your account!! I've also recieved special offers over the years which added to the value.

the confusion helps. At one particular property, I was asked (as a Gold) what amenity I would like upon checkin with my *Wood Platinum AMEX :D

Yeah I was hoping that would happen... more so though would be getting into the airport lounges for free like you do when you have the Amex Platinum.

By the way, what is the correct answer to that question?

Using a different Amex Platinum, I was once allowed to get a deal that was reserved for a "real" Platinum holder. So clueless salesfolk sometimes fall for that.

I thought they swiped your card to verify to enter the lounges?
