I just noticed this on their website, is says if the cancellation of a reservation occurs within less then 24h, a $50 no show fee may apply - do they enforce this at all?

Where does it say that? I've never gotten charged a no-show fee - as far as I know, most rental car companies don't charge.

Interestingly enough, the location is charged by the reservation system for no-shows. My favorite HLE gets hit for $2 per IIRC.

The website says in the FAQ section - nothing about no-shows though:

Q: Is there a penalty to cancel my reservation?
A: Some rates and vehicle types require a guarantee and may have a cancellation penalty associated with the reservation. However, reservations currently processed through our site do not have any guarantee or penalty associated to the rate nor vehicle confirmed. If a penalty applies, complete information will be included on the Rate screen and on the Confirmation screen.

They do charge a no-show fee if you fail to cancel 24 hours before pickup on luxury car rentals. I am told this is a strictly enforced policy.

What constitues a "Luxury" car? Does that mean just Prestige Collection? T-Birds are listed as "Luxury" vehicles on hertz.com.

Sorry to be unclear. It is just for the Prestige Collection.

I have been told back in August that there would be a no show fee for a reservation at my local edition. The car in question was an Exploder, so this is not limited to Prestige Collection.
The argument was that they would have to truck this car in since it was not usually stocked by the Local Edition.
I honored the reservation, so I don't know if I would have been charged.

Funny - I have cancelled a Ford Explorer about 30 minutes after I was supposed to pick up and was not charged. Maybe it varies by location?
