I searched this form and didn't find a single thread on visiting Arkansas. I need some suggestions/critics to my travel plan.
My wife and I will fly into Fayetteville on 10/8 early morning and leave 10/10 noon. We have never been to Arkansas and have no relatives/friends there either.
We are interested in history, nature and anything unique in Arkansas or South (Only done an auto touring of Tennessee (and Western Virgina/Texas if you consider them South, been to a number of big cities Atlanta, Orlando, etc, but they don't really count). We are going to skip Little Rock as we are not particularly interested in visiting a metropolitan. We were not impressed by what we read on the Hot Springs NP so we will skip it as well.
10/8, since we will fly in on a redeye flight, currently only plan to drive down to Fort Smith to visit Fort Smith NHP, then head east and stay overnight at Russellville. Probably have time to visit U. of AR campus or take a long route through Pig Trail Scenic Byway. I was told by a fellow FTer that the fall colors are truly beautiful this time of year. I haven't decided on either.
10/9, get up early and drive north on AR 7 scenic byway visiting Buffalo National Scenic River, Alum Cove Natural Bridge, Mystic Caverns along the way. Turn northwest to visit Pea Ridge NMP. Pea Ridge is a must for us, so we are willing to skip the sightseeing spots along AR7 if time is constrained. Stay overnight at Bentonville.
10/10 Visit Walmart HQ/Museum, leave for SanFran.
