saying that the car I rented has a broken windshield and they ask me if I am involved in an accident. If I am unaware or not involved in an accident, please say so. (pretty much a canned letter)

I got the letter one month after I returned the car.

Anyone has similar experience?

thanks.

Nope.

In TPA my Accord LX had a nice fan-shaped white paint spray across the back, where it looks like the car drove through some wet highway paint. I didn't notice when I picked it up (didn't put anything into the trunk), so no clue if it was there before I rented. This was in April, so I figure if they haven't contacted me by now, it must have been pre-existing.

In GSO in May, someone took the lefthand mirror glass from my Buick LeSabre. They left the motor and such and even disconnected (rather then snipped) the heating element wires. I did fill out a form on the return, but the agents seemed to feel it just fell off (I did all highway driving the day before, so I imagine I would have noticed it come off and there was no glass next to the car's parking space). Again, no letter.

Yep. :D

I got the same letter in June a few weeks after returning a Lincoln LS claiming there was damage to the rear bumper. I wasn't involved in an accident (alone or with another car), nor was I aware of the damage. I told them so, didn't fill out the accident report they sent with the letter, and haven't heard anything since. It's been 3 months now, so I figure I'm OK.

Thanks. I sent back the letter stating that I didn't involve in any accident and I am unaware of any damage.

What surprises me is that they send me the letter one month after I returned the car. Does it mean they discover it one month after and the car wasn't rent to other customers since I return? Or they just want someone to pay for it and go after all the people who rented the car since whenever? For a windshield damage, if the return agent didn't notice it when he checked the car, I think it is pretty much part of their cost of doing business.

I rented a car from AVIS in BRUSSELS air port when i took the car back i got a signed receipt that the car was returned in perfect codition. 6 weeks later AVIS wanted €250.00 for a new front window, i sent back a copy of the receipt & that was the last of it.
