Jaguar X-Type has a GPS system built-in.

A year back, I rented in MEL & ADL a Ford Falcon that came with built-in GPS. I could pick from the cars available from Hertz website. Not sure if this option is still available.

I NEED some sort of gps system in melbourne.

Want I can understand, need however.... there is this wonderfully traditional technique called road map and Hertz will provide a full map for free if a Gold member ( or for a fee otherwise ) and the road system in Melbourne is quite easy to navigate

I am not aware of Hertz Melbourne having any cars with Satellite Navigation other than the Jaguar X type

This is an old thread, but it relates to my question: Does anyone know if I can buy a portable GPS system and stick it into my rental car(s) in Australia. This isn't a problem in SYD, b/c I can rent a Hertz with GPS, but for the rest of the trip (Cairns, Darwin, Perth), I'd like GPS so I can take side-trips without having to pore over a map.

I have a friend who carries his own GPS device for his U.S. rentals, but I haven't been able to figure out if that exists in Australia. Thanks!

Something probably does exist, but you'd need a device that had an Australia mapset, or one that could be loaded on via a memory card.

Thanks. Sadly, I have yet to locate said device.

The TomTom navigation system has maps for Australia, see http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/mds.php.

Good friends of mine from Melbourne use the TomTom GO, not sure precise model, they've been fans of GPS for years and had a TomTom back in Melbourne and still using it now that they've moved to the States.

They are a gadget savvy family, one of the elder sons told me about the TomTom Rider a GPS system specially made for motorcycles. It is the only product on the market just for bikers, so I'm attaching a photo for those who might be curious
