American Express Membership Rewards - Annual Fee waived or discounted

I'm trying to establish in what circumstances Annual fees are waived or discounted, specifically for those customers that hold one or more different cards
I have the BA Plat Plus Card (UK credit card) and recently signed up for a Gold charge card. Is it likely I'll get a reduction on one or both cards annual fees?
What have other FT members experiences been ? Thanks in advance for all feedback / info :)

There are many threads already discussing this issue. With respect with American Express, it is typically impossible to get any unpublished waiver or discounted annual fees on their card products. If you charge a lot, you probably don't care about the annual fee as it is a fraction of a percent of what you will pay in a year. If you don't charge a lot, then you are probably more sensitive to the annual fee and are not as much of a profitable customer as someone who does charge a lot.
American Express does offer published discounted annual fees if you have an existing charge card relationship. This is offered on their US Delta Amex products. Additionally, if you are a Fidelity customer, Fidelity Investments will pick up a portion of the total bill on an American Express charge card. If you are an American Express Private Bank customer, you will need to talk to your private banker to discuss an appropriate American Express charge card in which the private bank may pay a portion or the entire annual fee bill.
Hope this helps!

[QUOTE=Kyle53719].
Kyle53719, thanks very much for the response and information. I tend to spend £15K + p/a on the BA Card, which I'm likely to continue to do, though I'm not planning to spend quite as much on the charge card.
I also use a few other affinity c/cards both Visa and Mastercard that provide me with mileage /ffp / hotel loyalty benefits.
I'll do some additional searches as suggested.

I find that AMEX charges me nothing for my airline cards. They do charge the full fee for my gold card. If I cancel the gold card they'll start charging for the airline cards. It makes sense this way; charge for the highest card and not charge for the rest.

KimThanks Kim, I gather this approach is often the case.
Unusually my credit card annual fee is actually more than the charge card, due to its higher / faster mileage rate than the standard card.

I did get my fee waived once, when I had a platinum card. Only because Amex Global assistence botched up when I missed a connecting flight in the US. I was so mad at the way that I had been treated that I wrote to the Executive office in Brighton. I actually got called back by a VP who apologised profusely and offered me one year free - thanks!
I got my first Amex card in 2002 - a Gold charge card with the first year fee waived due to a Marriott promo posted on here.
Each year since when the statement arrives with the fee I ring up and ask to cancel the card and each time they tell me as a special one time offer, they can waive the fee if I will stay with Amex. This includes 2004 when my annual spend was £0. Now my spend is about £1000/month t'll be interesting to see what their response is next time round.

Given your circumstances their gesture seems only reasonable :)

You put no spend on the card and they waived your fee, wow you must be a 'valuable' customer...lucky you! Imagine what they'll do for you now that you're actually using the card :p

If you have a Gold UK Charge card, the £120 annual fee on your Premium Plus card will be reduced down by default, I can't remember what it goes down to though - seem to recall it being about £30 or £50. Uk AmEx Platinum and Centurion Cardholders get it for free.
In terms of Annual Fee being waived or reduced, I had half of my UK Platinum fee reduced in the last year I had it before I moved up to Centurion, but it was for a whole catalogue of errors on Platinum behalf. I didn't go asking for the reduction, they offered it to me. It was 4 years ago so I can't remember exactly what the errors were, but I seem to recal them centralising on the ineptitude of some of the travel consultants.
Thanks,
Richard
EDIT: Just found the page - its £30 if you maintain another Charge or Credit card with AmEx:
