From 1 October 2005, South African Airways (SAA) becomes a partner in the Airpoints programme. Airpoints members will be able to earn and redeem Airpoints Dollars™ on eligible services operated by SAA from 1 October. With its hub in Johannesburg, South African Airways offers more than 700 destinations throughout the world, and serves 34 cities in 26 countries on six continents.
SAA will be joining the Star Alliance in early 2006, at which time Airpoints Gold and Gold Elite members will be able to access SAA lounges using their Star Gold privileges. Also upon SAA's joining the Star Alliance in 2006, travel on SAA will count towards elite status.
