Other North & South America Frequent Flyer Programs - Safe to book a Star Alliance Award For Next August?

I was planning to book an award ticket from ATL to GRU late next summer using some orphaned USAirways miles since I live in Atlanta and was wondering if it would be safe to book RG (If so is MIA or JFK more likely to stay) or should I consider UA instead?
