US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - Transatlantic upgrade - US Metal, UA Stock

I'm planning a trip to use my DMUTA5's and it's way cheaper to book on UA than US metal since our office has a nice discount from UA. If I were to buy the UA ticket, could I use the US upgrades?
