Travel Technology - Question about hotel HAIA and router

I am going to be in a hotel this week that only has wired (free) HSIA. It is a 2 bedroom suite and the plug is in the middle room. The problem is that there are two of us that will have laptops (both new with XP and built in wireless) and need to get work done.

I have just spent the last 45 minutes reading posts that I searched for but have not found the answer, at least not in a language I understand!!

I am wishing to bring along a lynksys wireless G router from home. What am I going to need to do to make it work?

I would say I have a solid basic understanding of how to install a router and get things working, but by no means fluent with some of the things people here have been talking about.

Can anyone help me?? Obviously I really need it!

Thanks

Jennifer

I would just plug the router in and then plug the cat 5 from hotel to the back of the router. On the linksys it shows you which one you plug it into because it seperates it from the other network plug ins. At this point see if you can see the wireless network. Sometimes it just does it automatically based ont he settings you had from home. If not follow the next couple of steps.

Take another cat 5 and plug it into your notebook and then plug it into your router. Then I would go 192.168.1.1 ? I think that is the linksys ip address. Type in admin and password? You will have to find out what your password is set up to - most people use the standard which is "password". From there maybe someone else that has a lynksys could take over. Basically you are looking for it to automatically detect the settings. It usually does. If any others could add on that would be great.... Hope that starts you off.

Thanks for the info. So basically I can do just as I would from home it sounds like.

I guess my one concern is about signing in. I think I had to do that (even though it is free). Perhaps I do this first before adding the router to the mix?

Any other advice would be appreciated. I will be trying it out on Thursday!
