I have been looking at a trip to Auckland from the US in business class. I had my fingers crossed I could find something in the 3k - 4k price range. Can't find anyting less then 6K... even from brokers...

Anyone have any suggestions?

I was in same boat. Had to finally give up and bite the bullet. Consensus seems to be that NZ's new business product is too hot to mark down.

If you're travelling with someone else and you have a Platinum AmEx Card, then you can get 2 business class tickets for the price of one on Air NZ. But, you have to use AmEx's Platinum Travel Service.

I do have that card- but the biz class fare is 8K... so that would be 4K per seat.. not too bad but there is only one of me!

I know Air New Zealand has a new biz class product, but United does not.. and no better on Qantas.

I thought there was now only one fare on NZ Business Class from the U.S. or
at least that's what their ads seem to indicate.

Anybody know what fare bucket the platinum amex fares come from?

There are different fare buckets... Amex confirmed this for me. The 2 for 1 fare from LAX is 7,400.00 and the 2nd ticket is 170.00 in taxes.

AX 2 FOR 1 requires a full C fare on NZ = LAX.SFO/AKL US$7233, LAX.SFO/SYD.MEL.BNE.CNS US$8977, LAX/NAN.RAR US$3779, LAX/APW US$3372, LAX/TBU US$4895

Full taxes must be paid for both pax and both pax do book into the C bucket.

Not a bad deal considering the lowest published return fare out of the US LAX/AKL is US$6733

I spent hours researching the same last year and I found ANZ not very easy to deal with.

My advice is to fly to there via Australia on UAL and use SWUs. I have done it using of course ANZ from SYD to NZ in economy but otherwise biz class out of USA to Australia. You cannot beat UAL and the biz class is pretty good although I find AC slightly better. This winter AC will likely again offer its non stop from YVR to SYD.

I have looked endlessly for discounted biz to NZ on NZ, no luck. It is cheaper to get a flight to LHR and go from there. Another option is to buy two one way fares, the fare from AKL to LAX/SFO is less than ex USA/Canada.

I had no idea about the Amex Plat card, I used to have one till they burned my with CP years ago. Could be time to get one again.
