TalkBoard Topics - Removal of the Quiet Period
On 13 Sept 2005, the TalkBoard unanimously approved a motion to recommend that members of the TalkBoard may discuss issues in public forums, i.e. TalkBoard Issues, which the TalkBoard may be simultaneously discussing in their private forum; however, no TalkBoard member may discuss the viewpoints of other individual TalkBoard members, unless (1) it is agreed upon mutually between the parties involved in writing in the private TalkBoard forum, or (2) said TalkBoard members take their viewpoints into the public arena.

As the Talkboard member that initiated this vote I am happy it passed, and happy that it passed so unanimously. I'd also like to thank Cameraguy for getting the wheels in motion.
I really feel that a more open Talkboard will help everyone get more involved in what we do, and help make Flyertalk an even better place.
I think we still need to discuss some more of the details regarding our discussions, but in the meantime please ask any questions you may have about what we do!

Actually, while it is certainly correct that this vote has been initiated by ScottC, there had been several previous attempts to question the "quiet period" policy, going back at least almost one year (the day after the last people voted onto the TalkBoard gained access - you can guess why I know that).
I agree with ScottC, though, that it is good that this policy has been changed. I also hope that we will be more free to discuss our own viewpoints now. I have certainly been open to doing that, and am open to being questioned about them, too.

FewMiles..
I'll only say that I really wish we would just open the whole TalkBoard forum - especially one of the threads where it was attempted to remove the "quiet period" before. It would be an interesting - and maybe surprising - read for everyone.
Keep it civil and not personal, please.
Thank you.

Good news. Thanks to ScottC for helping to see this through and thanks to CameraGuy for bringing the issue front and centre.
It's telling how any claims of past efforts to remove the "quiet period" are supported only with a lack of any results.
FewMiles..
You are VERY welcome!

In the near future TalkBoard elections should be announced. We will then have plenty of time to explain to the world how those candidates we like are saints while those we oppose are the Devil's Playtools.
Until such time, isn't it best if we keep TalkBoard Topics restricted to topics which should or are being discussed by TalkBoard?

Dovster I agree.
And thanks to ScottC and CameraGuy for kicking this off.. to Spiff for keeping us mere plebs ;) on here updated and to you for your concise but very helpful explanation on the other thread (to save posting twice!)
What Jenbel said.
Thanks Scott and CG!

I think it was good of GC to bring the issue up and Scott to bring the motion.
Is the next step lifting the veil on the TB forum? Atty28, can you move that one forward?

Many thanks to ScottC for bringing this to fruition, and to CG for floating the idea.
And a hearty +1 to skofarrell's further suggestion.

What she said. Thanks to ScottC, CameraGuy & Spiff for your efforts ^
Let's avoid discussing any matters other than the one at hand, Removal of the Quiet Period.
If you wish to have a civil discussion about other aspects of the TalkBoard, please do so in another thread.
Thank you.

whats a quiet period???
previously TB members could not discuss matters under talkboard consideration. Public discussion was only allowed after a decision had been made.
whats a quiet period???
I always understood a quiet period to be something binding upon employees of a publicly held company just prior to, and just after the quarterly earnings reports are announced.
That prevents individual employees to either profit (or tell friends who may then profit) from inside information that is not yet made public.

Thank goodness Flyertalk is not a publicly held company then ;)

more transparancy = less secrecy.
I like.. good job.

Thank YOU, attorney28. Not all of us have suffer from selective memory loss.

Like RKG, my memory goes back a LOT longer than a year. :)
Nonetheless, good to see more transparency. ^
