CHICAGO, Sept 13 (Reuters) - America West Holdings Corp. (AWA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Tuesday that a shareholder vote on its proposed merger with bankrupt US Airways Group Inc. (UAIRQ.OB: Quote, Profile, Research) showed 95.5 percent approval.
America West said it expected to close the deal in late September.
"With US Airways final bankruptcy court hearing scheduled for later this week, we anticipate closing our merger with US Airways at the end of September as previously scheduled," America West Chief Executive Doug Parker said in a statement.
US and HP are one step closer. I know the FA were going to protest at the shareholders meeting, but apparently that couldn't derail anything. CWA and Teamster meanwhile have agreed to form new union to merger both US and HP employees, so at least that part of labor seems to be on board.
