I checking in at dca, next time i see my bags at cun. what is different that on one of my pieces of luggage no BAG TAG. i go back to staff in Cancun, they found nothing. i spend a week in beautiful CANCUN. when I get back to Chicago i call us air they tell me its not been located anywhere in the system. If you call a lost $5 tag a "horror" or something even to make such a big deal about, you must lead quite an immaculate life

If it gets lost after the very first trip with it it IS a horror. and if this would happen every time imagine how much money you would spend buying new bag tags every time! $10 $ 10 $10. so im not making a big deal out of it! NOW IF ANYONE COULD GIVE SOME ADVICE THAT WOULD APPRECIATED MORE!

NOW IF ANYONE COULD GIVE SOME ADVICE THAT WOULD APPRECIATED MORE!

HOW ABOUT NOT BUYING ANY MORE TAGS? GET SOME FREE ONES FROM A CHECK-IN COUNTER.

. . .NOW IF ANYONE COULD GIVE SOME ADVICE THAT WOULD APPRECIATED MORE! . . .

I think the point that others are making here is that a missing baggage tag is an occurance that does not a travel nightmare make. It's a blip on the travel radar -- gone and forgotten as soon as it happens.

Now a lost or a damaged bag is most definitely something to get prickly about.

We fly some dozen times a year and on occasison, we too lose a tag about once a year -- it's a cost of travel, no more, no less. And to be perfectly honest about it, those US elite tags do not appear to be very sturdy to begin with. I'm not at all surprised that they rip off easily. If there is a lesson here, it is to either purchase more durable tags, or go with the paper tags at the check in counters.

I'm sorry, but I too, do not comprehend your incredulous reaction to a minor event.

The fake leather straps for the tags are worthless and break easily. I use two black twist-ties to secure my tags.

I never use them. The thieves in the baggage chain, TSA to Handlers, know that pretty gold and silver tags must mean a rich person owns the suitcases. Most of my suitcases are beat up and I never have anything "stolen". Confiscated, yes, but not stolen. :rolleyes:

You called US Air to ask about a missing baggage tag? As in those plastic / leather things you put on your bag that cost 10$? :confused: :confused:

Mabye you should ask for compensation ;)

Why don't you buy zero new ones, as they don't improve the way your baggage is handled, may increase your chance of suffering theft, and have so far created nothing but upset for you.

I agree with the others that on the Standardized Air Travel Horror Impact Scale (STATHIS), a lost $10 bag tag does not even move the needle.

If you make CP you will get free bag tags :) I have bag tag protectors to protect the cheap plastic bag tags so they do not get ripped off or broken.

I'm happy with my FT bag tags.... But those don't get touched since I carry on. :D

Besides, when you save $5-$30 when booking on usairways.com, why worry about an extra $10? :D:D:D :rolleyes:

Where do you even buy Preferred luggage tags?

I've lost a few US preferred tags over the years (the ones they used to give out free every year to preferreds). One on a checked piece that simply vanished somewhere between PHL and SAN. One on a carry on (of all things :eek: ) that "may have shifted during flight" ripping the tag off - I didn't notice until I got to the hotel. And one that simply disintegrated after years of abuse. I'm down to just a few intact tags left, so I guess making CP this year has substantial added importance :D :p

Is this post a joke? Am I on candid camera??

Just in case it is a serious post, the issue is quite probably the lousy strength of that fake leather strapette that they send you with the badge tag. The tag itself is reasonably durable, but it doesn't take long at all for that cheap strap to act like paper. Your best bet = toss the free strap they send you and replace it with a much more durable one from somewhere else.

(I have about 10 billion of those clear rubbery straps for said use from miscellaneous conferences and meetings from over the years in some office drawer! They are essentially indestructable!)

Two words. Carry On.Carry On
By Robert William Service

It's easy to fight when everything's right,
And you're mad with the thrill and the glory;
It's easy to cheer when victory's near,
And wallow in fields that are gory.
It's a different song when everything's wrong,
When you're feeling infernally mortal;
When it's ten against one, and hope there is none,
Buck up, little soldier, and chortle:

Carry on! Carry on!
There isn't much punch in your blow.
You're glaring and staring and hitting out blind;
You're muddy and bloody, but never you mind.
Carry on! Carry on!
You haven't the ghost of a show.
It's looking like death, but while you've a breath,
Carry on, my son! Carry on!

And so in the strife of the battle of life
It's easy to fight when you're winning;
It's easy to slave, and starve and be brave,
When the dawn of success is beginning.
But the man who can meet despair and defeat
With a cheer, there's the man of God's choosing;
The man who can fight to Heaven's own height
Is the man who can fight when he's losing.

Carry on! Carry on!
Things never were looming so black.
But show that you haven't a cowardly streak,
And though you're unlucky you never are weak.
Carry on! Carry on!
Brace up for another attack.
It's looking like hell, but -- you never can tell:
Carry on, old man! Carry on!

There are some who drift out in the deserts of doubt,
And some who in brutishness wallow;
There are others, I know, who in piety go
Because of a Heaven to follow.
But to labour with zest, and to give of your best,
For the sweetness and joy of the giving;
To help folks along with a hand and a song;
Why, there's the real sunshine of living.

Carry on! Carry on!
Fight the good fight and true;
Believe in your mission, greet life with a cheer;
There's big work to do, and that's why you are here.
Carry on! Carry on!
Let the world be the better for you;
And at last when you die, let this be your cry:
Carry on, my soul! Carry on!I have bag tag protectors to protect the cheap plastic bag tags so they do not get ripped off or broken.Details?

I have to say that I'm in one of these two camps. Assuming this post is genuine, and it would appear that the OP is sincere about it, I honestly can't fathom lost baggage tag and horror in the same sentence.

Since you asked for suggestions, mine would be: Let it go.

By the way I am CP and as far as I know-- they don't send you tags.....

Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I can hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
No!
Carry on
You will always remember
Carry on
Nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

Cheers!

When I saw the title I thought it was something like they were flying from DCA to LGA and someone put PHL baggage tags on their cocker spaniel and it showed up as a skeleton of a cocker spaniel at LGA like 3 years later. Who knew? ;)

I bought my baggage ID protectors in PHL at one of the baggage stores. They actually are not baggage ID protectors. They are suppose to be bag tags as well and you fill your name in on a piece of paper and slide it in the plastic. But what I did was I took the paper out and slid my US baggage ID card in there. It has never broken because the baggage ID protector is a very hard plastic that surrounds my US Airways ID card. I know there are other stores that carry them you just need to look. I remember seeing them in BCN Airport as well.

You just need to look or you can even do a search on the web.

Next time I go through PHL I will go to the store and see if they are still there. If they are I will make sure to write down the store name.

Anyone find any straps that are more sturdy than these leather ones that we get? I keep showing up taggless, and I think some kind of metal wire strap or something different would make these last..............

thanks!

AA provides their baggage tags on a length of very strong, flexible plastic of some sort, almost a nylon. Had one on a bag for about 2 years, it is almost as good as steel but wont cut, etc.
