I'm in Chicago for a short break early October and I'm thinking of taking advantage of the dollar pound exchange rate to get myself a (relatively) cheap iPod Nano. I have questions:

1. Where is best to buy one of these gadgets downdown (South Loop but I'll be visiting other areas)? I assume there will be an Apple store but I'm having difficulty connecting to Apple tonight.

2. Are there any guarantee issues I should be aware of in the event of product failure?

Regards
I

There is an Apple Store on North Michigan Avenue a few blocks south of Water Tower Place and just north of the loop. 10-20 minute walk.

I was after getting an iPod whilst in the US too, but was after some advice on power adapters for use in the UK.

The plugs on ipods are detachable and you can buy the "pronged piece separately" - also look on ebay. I did buy the whole pack of international adaptors on there cheaper than one was retailing for separte

There are no adapters :D

iPods nowadays are all USB charged. You CAN get a charger but don't need it if you have a PC.

Forget Apple stores.. how about finding a Target or something! Find a discount department store.

I haven't checked, but does Costco have them?

Target has the same selection and usually the same prices as the Apple store.

Costco carries (or carried) the HP iPods. Apple has very strict pricing policies, so don't expect stuff to go on sale suddenly.

Your best bet for a cheaper ipod is the clearance table at the Apple store, my local one had 6Gb minis for $210 yesterday, and most accessories on sale. With full warranty.

As always, thanks for all the advice. The Apple store on Michigan avenue is in reasonable walking distance of my hotel so that looks like a good bet.

BTW, I saw an Apple nano last night... WOW. About 1 1/2" wide, 4" high, and the depth is barely more than the headphone mini-jack.
