Hi,

Does anybody have any suggestions on booking a hotel that is sold out? Do hotels have a waitlist? I am willing to pay rack rate, and can get 1 room w/ the plat overide, but I need 4 rooms in NY where they are almost all sold out... :(

thanks!

Not every hotel accepts waitlists. You can call the Customer Contact Center and they should be able to tell you which hotels in New York City do, but it could well be that none do.

NYC has been crazy busy this year.

"NYC has been crazy busy this year."

It sure has! I'm trying to get a room for 9/14 and am having trouble finding ANYTHING in Manhattan, much less any Starwood property. Things were wide open in August, but NY has been booked for next week since I started trying last week.

Is there anything "huge" going on next week that would fill every 3 star+ room in the city?

I got back from Labor Day weekend, and 3* (and higher) hotels were charging $250+. I was booked at Courtyard Times Sq for $205 (reserved a couple of months prior), but when the Westin TS came up with a $274 internet-only rate (1 day before arrival), I grabbed it.

According to New York magazine, here's a reason why NYC is crowded next week (plus, US Open ends on 9/11)...

Good question. All 3 Starwood properties are sold out for my dates in October and I'd really love to stay at the Westin.

Mid September in New York historically is the busiest time of year for two big reasons:
1. Fashion week brings in loads of press, glitterati and the like. Because everything is in mid town, rooms book up quickly and radiate out from there.
2. Similarly, the United Nations has its annual meeting where many heads of state all come in to make speeches and the like. So you have tons of diplomats all filling up the rooms at around the same time.

These two gatherings combined with the normal Fall back-to-work meetings/conferences make for an impossibly tough place to find a room, It's been this way for many years and is not a new occurence at all. If I ever have meetings planned this time of year in NYC, I book way in advance if possible. It does let up a bit around the Jewish holidays and Columbus Day at the end of September and early October.
