I got my latest copy of the Centurion Magazine and was pleasantly surprised to see that Centurion now gets you Priority Club Platinum (in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe, not sure about the UK).
I know it's not SPG Platinum but I like it anyway :) .

Yes - it's also available in the UK - just phone Amex CCS Travel and they'll give you a Priority Club number within 7 days and the card within 2/3 weeks.
Let's just hope that SPG Platinum doesn't disappear as a result!
Cheers,
Rob.

Folks, I have received my new card today. However, the cover letter says that Platinum status will remain in effect through the end of 2005. To continue with this status for 2006, you must meet the minimum requirements of either 50 nights or 60,000 points by December 31, 2005.
I was always under the impression that the status remains active as long as you have an Amex Centurion Card. Anyone with more information ?
Cheers

No mention of this in the Swiss edition of the magazine. What's Priority Club Platinum card?

It is pretty useless, to be honest. You may (but most often may not) get a small upgrade the next time you stay at a HI, HIX, Crowne Plaza or InterContinental.
It's hard to believe that many Centurions will be diverting their spending to the nearest HI on the off-chance they get an upgrade to a room facing the front rather than a room facing the bins. Forget about free breakfast, suite upgrades etc. There is a good reason why the Priority Club forum on FT has one of the lowest level of posts out of all the forums, despite Priority Club covering more hotels than any other programme :( .
And if you're staying at InterCon's, you're better off joining the Ambassador plan for $150 because they throw in a free weekend night certificate and guarantee the upgrade.

... and most of those posts are about the gigantic numbers of points that can be obtained by abusing the bonuses available. Or about how those points get taken away when you get caught.

sorry, that sounds a little too pesimistic... until yet the number of people which are "caught" and "robbed" their bonus points, are so less that you can count them on one hand. Shure is, that Platinum status can be easily reached and at the same time it isn't worth that much.
