Starwood Preferred Guest - SPG Mastercard Usage = SPG active account?

I've stayed at Starwood properties this year, so my SPG status is surely active. But I still have a question regarding ways to keep your SPG account active. Does the use of the MBNA/SPG Mastercard considered a way to keep your SPG account active in Canada (like the SPG AMEX is in the US)? It is not mentionned in the Terms & Conditions of the SPG program yet... It should as the SPG Mastercard have been available for a year or so in Canada.

Yes, using the SPG/MBNA Mastercard will work to keep your account active.
I've asked that Terms and Conditions be updated to reflect this - twice. Not sure what the hold-up might be. Maybe they have more pressing issues?

Thanks!
Starwood should get this straight by now... it's been a year soon. By the way, I just wanted to let you know that MBNA Canada might be getting their act together, finally, with the SPG Mastercard. My Starpoints are now posting on the same day every month and bonuses regarding 10K, 20K, 30K $ in spending are posting accordingly... Just wanted to mention this, in case you wanted to let Starwood know that MBNA Canada are finally getting their act together. (Knock on wood!)

I wasn't aware that you could get a Mastercard/SPG card. Do you order it off of Mastercard.com? Thanks. Scott

All that's left now is INTERNET BILLING! I can't believe that MBNA Canada does not have web access to view our bill. Definitely my biggest gripe with MBNA.

I 100% agree.... mind you, I kind of like the rush I get from the mystery bill each month :)
I would say that if there was internet billing, I would change all my work expenses to this card from my Aeroplan AMEX... hopefully 2006 will see MBNA catch on to all the 'new' technology!

I have a SPG Mastercard since the intro last october. I'm satisfied with the card, customer service is so-so sometimes, but I don't call often other than to hear my balance over the recording... Since last year they told me that online services were coming in 2005. But I also heard from other MBNA cardholders that they have been saying this for years. So I don't know, maybe they are just saying "it's coming" to shut us up... I sure hope BofA will make changes at MBNA Canada, since right now MBNA Canada doesn't feel very "complete" and "competent" as a financial institution. Look at their website...

Even if it's everywhere on the SPG website, the SPG Mastercard is for canadians only. The SPG AMEX is for americans only. You can take a look at www.mbna.ca for an application (the terms & conditions will tell you). You have nothing to lose... but you won't be approved unless you have a canadian address. Sorry. :td:
