Travel Technology - Domestic cellular coverage --- Verizon vs. Spring

A couple of years ago, I convinced my boss to switch to Verizon (from AT&T) for our department's wireless needs. I have been nothing but pleased with the coverage. Another department within the company hasn't liked the Verizon coverage from day one. I think it is because they picked different phones (with lots of fancy features but maybe not the reception) than my department.

Now, we are getting pressure for the entire company to switch to Sprint. I think this is bad but I thought I would ask for FlyerTalkers opinion. Don't let my opinion influence yours.

Here is the deal. I don't care about phone features. I want to talk on the phone. I don't care about international accesses. What I need is a provider that provides the absolutely best coverage in as many corners of this country as possible. I get equally to major metro areas vs. the middle of no place. So, far, my Verizon phone has only been a problem in far NE Arizona (no coverage at all) and a little bit in south central Washington. Price isn't a big deal but does require unlimited roaming, unlimited long distance, and unlimited mobile-to-mobile.

So, Verizon, Sprint, or someone else?

Alltel or Verizon would be my best bets for service. They both roam alot off each otehrs network and I have found that I have had coverage in just about every spot I have travelled to even remote parts of Wyoming, South Dakota and New Mexico. I know Alltel has the Total Freedom plan which has unlimited roaming, but im not too sure on the unlimited Long Distance (i know its free, but I think they take them from your pool of anytime minutes), and unfortunitly for business plans they cap Mobile to Mobile at 1000 minutes.

My Dad has Sprint PCS and when he is in the middle of nowhere, his phone rarely can pick up any signal. Heck even just north of Waterloo, IA, he gets no signal on Sprint.

I would think that staying with Verizon, if they give you all those unlimited features, would probably be the best option.
