American Express Membership Rewards - Centurion Additional Cardholder - No Welcome Kit?

My best friend was generous enough to add me as an additional cardholder on his Centurion account in exchange for paying the additional cardholder fee. When the card arrived 24 hours later, all that arrived was the card itself. No welcome kit as described in another thread, no way to sign up for all the affinity programs, etc.

I actually don't plan on charging anything on the card, the elite levels for airlines/hotels are what is valuable to me as I travel weekly for work and sometime have to stray from my usual AA/Hilton combo.

Is this standard procedure to not send it out or was there a process breakdown somewhere?

You are not the Mastercard holder :p

That is a good idea. Just piggyback on someone else's card. That has to be the quickest way to achieve SPG Plat!

What do they charge for an additional Black card? I remember it was expensive because I opted for the Gold card addition for my wife since she usually travels with me.

The main cardholder on the Centurion account is called the 'basic' cardmember - it is only them that will get the welcome kit. All the other supplementaries will be sent just the card.

For the actual benefits, it varies whether you will be entitled to them as a supplementary - I'm not sure for the US version of the card but I would imagine that the airline affinity cards, and some of the hotel cards are only for the basic member. This is the case for the UK, SPG Platinum and HH Gold is not given to all the supplementaries on the account. The recently added Priority Club platinum elite is only available to the basic cardmember.

Thanks,
Richard

Wait for a while for the kit to be sent to you. You get the card first and then the kit. If you don't receive one in two weeks, call the phone number on the back of the card. Once AMEX answers, choose option three and ask for the kit. They will send you one.

You will be eligible for ALL benefits including Priority Club Platinum Elite. The cost for an additional card is $1500.

I've just got of the phone from Centurion who confirmed after checking that for UK Centurions the Priority Club Platinum is only for the Basic Cardmember - not supplementary Centurion holder in agreement with R Mannions earlier mail. Is this another difference in the global offering due to annual fee costs?

That's a good friend indeed! I don't think I have ANY friends close enough that I would give them the privilege of unlimited charging on my account with no recourse (legal or otherwise) if they decided simply not to repay me some month. I think you owe your friend a very nice dinner (at least!) as a big thank you!

Thanks pterostyrax...I'll sit tight and wait for it to be sent.

However, not entirely true on the additional cardholder fee...he is a Centurion "charter member", so his annual fee is $1000 and was charged (or told me he was charged) $500 for an additional card. I can't imagine he's that good of a friend to swallow a 1K delta :D

Of course, I was talking about current practices.

My wife never received the "big box" this year. When I called to ask, they said they are not sent to Supplemental Card Holders. I explained that in addition to some expensive but worthless brochures, the box also included the coupons needed for the Mandarin 1 night free offers. They sent a box on to her. (She's had the card for 3-4 years, by the way).

When she originally got the card we did all the sign-ups for the elite programs by fax, so I don't recall getting anything by mail.

I would not wait - call and tell them you want your elite status ASAP, and they can expedite things. And don't forget to request the Priority Pass sign-up too.
