Any thoughts/comments on Motorla V188 for T-mobile?
Travel Technology - Motorola V188View Full Version : Motorola V188 Yaatri Sep 4, 05, 2:52 am Any thoughts/comments on Motorla V188 for T-mobile? civicmon Sep 4, 05, 4:15 am I have a V330 and it just seems like an older model of the same design of phone. either way, I'm satisfied with mine. You might want to opt for the v330 though as it's quad-band GSM.. ensuring compatibility worldwide. Just a suggestion. Offtopic: find anything out about Biloxi? Work? Apt? Again, glad to see you made it out of there.... Indurain Sep 4, 05, 6:06 am Thoughts/comments? Well, this is just another cookie-cutter Moto V-series phone that have the same user interface as the others. If you've used this series in the past, it probably won't be any different. If you're coming from another brand, it takes a little getting used to. As for tri-band vs. quad-band, the only band missing is 850, which is used in North America by Cingular. You won't miss it with T-Mobile. If you travel to South America, some countries use 850, but mostly as a secondary band (like DCS in Europe and Asia). 850 does not exist in Asia or Europe. Personally, I like to cover all with a quad-band phone (also due to the nature of my work), but if you get a better deal with tri-band, you'll be just fine. When he got there, it was being buldozed. SOe other friedns have had lot of flood damage. All I know about my apartment building is that rushing water washed the first floor away. All offices arre still closed. SOme buildings have suffered heavy damage. From what I have gathered, we shall not reopen for another week at least. jan_az Sep 7, 05, 11:16 pm I have a V188 My only complain probably comes because I cant find the anwswer to how to change from Ring out loud to vibrate or silent without opening up the phone and going through a bunch of menus. My last phone just let you do it externally. And before you all yell at me - I did RTFM.:Dbb woody125 Sep 8, 05, 7:43 am The V188 is the free phone right now for the 700 minute a month plan on TMobile's website. I'm heading out this afternoon to get one for me and my wife. From what I see it is a no frills, dependable quad band phone. As we travel in Eastern Europe a good bit, that will come in handy. CNET rates it a 6 (out of 10). I'm moving over from Sony Ericcson to Motorola and so far have liked what I've used (old V lines mostly). Is your attraction the freeness of it? For me, that's the pull. jan_az Sep 9, 05, 9:14 am The V188 is the free phone right now for the 700 minute a month plan on TMobile's website. For me, that's the pull. I actually paid for mine :( . It is a good solid Motorola workhorse pseudoswede Sep 9, 05, 11:05 am When I've fiddled with the V188 at the T-Mobile store, it feels a little too plastic-y. Does the phone feel solid besides that? woody125 Sep 12, 05, 5:18 am I've had mine nearly a week. I love it. I've used it, dropped it, rolled over on it and the sturdiness is quite appealing. No super special features on it for sure but a solid workhorse phone it is. We got four and all of them were black! That makes picking up the wrong phone around my house pretty easy to do. BTW, Tanya, at the store I got it from, told me that if I find a free phone that I really like on TMobile's site during the next two weeks, I can bring mine in and she'll exchange it for me free of charge. This would break up the confusion of having 4 phones in one house that look the same. She said they normally reset the online freebies on Mondays. It's 6.15 a.m. on Monday and the same phones from last week are the same phones from this week. I'll keep checking though. She waived all 4 activation fees by the way. That's $140 in savings right off the bat. So far, I love the in store TMobile customer service... ^ ^ ^ woody125 Sep 12, 05, 5:22 am I have a V188 My only complain probably comes because I cant find the anwswer to how to change from Ring out loud to vibrate or silent without opening up the phone and going through a bunch of menus. My last phone just let you do it externally. And before you all yell at me - I did RTFM.:Dbb I was wondering this myself after reading your post. During church yesterday morning, with the phone closed, I pushed the "down" button on the left side of the phone 5 or 6 times. The external screen showed nothing but the ring style. Then I opened up the phone and pushed that same "down" button again on the side of the phone, it showed that the volume was all the way off already. Might it adjust the volume without showing you on the external screen that that is what it is doing? I didn't think much of it at the time (thinking on more important things you know) and I'll mess with it when I get fully out of bed but you might try that. Hope it helps. pseudoswede Sep 12, 05, 1:21 pm ...at the store I got it from, told me that if I find a free phone that I really like on TMobile's site during the next two weeks, I can bring mine in and she'll exchange it for me free of charge. On-line, I can get the V188 for free, but at the B&M store, the best they could do was $30. The sales rep said that they cannot match what T-Mo has on their website for handset upgrades. I've been offered pretty good deals from authorized T-Mo dealers, which is whom I may upgrade through instead. |
