US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - HP LAX Focus City Going Bye Bye??

America West is ending service from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Edmonton, and Mazatlan after the summer timetable.

Los Angeles-Edmonton ends 11 October 2005.
Los Angeles-Mazatlan ends 10 October 2005.
Los Angeles-Vancouver ends 13 September 2005.

This week they ended Los Angeles-Boston and Los Angeles-New York City, after previously ending Los Angeles-Washington Dulles.

They will still offer Saturday-only service to Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco (HP is the only airline that flies LAX-ACA non-stop).

I'm no expert on HP, but the traffic on all the flights into and out of YVR are in the high 90's if not 100%. This is due to a huge amount of cruise traffic leaving for Alaska. It is my understanding that this traffic and boardings on the cruise ships drops dramatically after the second week in September. I just spent a week watching the four huge cruise ships dock in the morning and leave in the early evening in one of the most beautiful cites I have ever been to.

This may be factor in the dropping from the schedule.

Also, aren't they reopening the club effective 11/1? I'd say that's solidifying LAX as a focus city.

Ok guys. Excellent. I hope this is just a temporary schedule drop. I hope they all return very soon.

Yes I did. We were in management meetings at the Sheraton Bayshore with a full view of all the ships and the docks. Which one were you on?

The Statendam (Holland America). Dang, I wish I knew we were in Vancouver at the same time. We could have met for a chorum. I was also jonesing for a free internet connection to get on FT. :D
