I've used Firefox since version .8, and my 1.06 just blew up. It asks for a user profile, and when I select default, it stops loading. I've tried reinstalling but no good. I'm actually writing this message from IE. BLeech

Have you tried de-installing it prior to re-installation?

I've had this happen twice recently. When I reboot the computer, it comes back up in perfect shape.

I have problems with thunderbird, after a couple of weeks, my email-profile gets lost. I have to configure a new one and can copy the old files into the new one. had the same problem with netscape. any ideas?

couldn't really understand to which posts, your yes, no yes, post applied, but if you are using the bookmark sync, that has been the cause of this for me on about five installations.

If you're using a Windows OS, did you check to see if the firefox.exe process was still running in your task manager even though your Firefox browser was completely closed? Every blue moon it crashes on me and when I relaunch the browser, it asks me to pick a user profile. I just cancel out of that, and kill the errant firefox.exe process in my task manager. After that, everything works like normal again.

Yes, this happens on occasion. It blows up but leaves part of itself running. Kill the offending task from the task manager (processes, not running applications) and everything's fine again.

You all need to start running Mozbackup once a week or so...

It'll backup everything (settings, bookmarks, extensions) and put them in a nice file ready to restore if needed...

Works for Firefox and Thunderbird

Dear rb911 My personality(default), or whatever they call it would not open. "was in use or some such" I created a new personality(THE gerald), and opened FF. I then found and copied all my bookmarks into the new personality. Not in the program, but finding the file that held them, erase the file in the gerald personality, and copy the old default personality.

The word is "profile" and there is aa page somewhere on Mozilla.org for support which explains how to fix this issur.

I'm a little bit suspicious of extensions or utilities that do not come directly from the mozilla.org site. Quite a bit more so recently based on things I see coming out of cert.org, their alerts and vulnerability summaries. ... Although right now I can't find the messages that made me think of this.

There is always some risk. But that risk is the same with anything you install on your PC, even the extensions from Mozilla directly can be unstable or unsafe, Mozilla.org is just a download facility. Of course I can't guarantee it is 100% safe, but I've been using it for almost a year now, and am very happy with it.

FWIW; this application is not an extension, so it does not need to be installed as part of Mozilla. It is a standalone app that you run on demand.
