I'll gladly take any suggestions for apps - good IM clients, possible replacement email programs, and other things that make your lives easier. TIA, DG

As a Handspring fan from day one, I've loved all of my treo's the 90, 600 & the 650.

We'll need to know your service provider in order to help.

Although I suggest checking out Palmone (http://www.palmone.com)

I'm on T-Mobile. I just am bored and want to fill it up with fun exciting stuff. :)

This is a good one too, although I'm a lowly Treo 600 user.

www.treocentral.com - there is always a thread on "best apps", "must have apps", etc.

GoodLink if your corporation supports it, PDANet, PocketTunes, VeriChat, KeyCaps, one of the Backup apps.

Where did you get the Treo 650 from? You must have bought it unlocked because T-Mobile only sells the 600.

A 16 year kid wrote an application for palm/treo that can get real time flight status for most domestic and international carriers, although he asks for a donations to his "college fund". I sent him $10.00 via pay pal. The URL is www.andrewsoft.net. I think he uses data from flightview, which is an interesting site by itself.

Get Metro (google search with Metro Palm) - this is an app that shows you the subway for each city. Used this in NYC, London, Barceona, etc. And it's free.

This is what I have on my 600:

I would go and get BackupMan right now! This application has really saved my butt quite a few times, I would not go a day with out. Works flawlessly and shines when you absolutely need it. Get it at www.bitsnbolts.com

Snapper Mail, my email client, I love it.

I use File Z, it's okay.

I get lots of mileage for years now from Happy Days, a free program to rememver BDays, etc. Google it as jmjeong and "Happy Days"

Key Caps, helps with the Shift and capitalizing & number typing, etc. Very useful.

SF Cave game to pass the time

Zap2016 game for my 7 year old to play whenever I am talking on my Treo :)

The rest is for purely professional use.

DioPlayer 1.0 (http://mytreo.net/downloads/details-703.html?DioPlayer)

Free player for MP3 and WAV files. I personally prefer it to Real Player and Pocket Tunes. Controls, equalizer, playlists, repeat, shuffle, play in the background.

I like Chatter for e-mail. (Phone's ringing, no time to put the link in...)

I have been doing a lot of research on these things and the Treo 650, unlocked, seems to suit all my needs.

Does it do WiFi? I know it has an SD slot, and I really don't know what I am talking about here, so is that where a WiFi card would go?

Ditto the Snapper rave - I prefer it greatly to Versa - and as a traveler I find Vindigo and Zagat valuable, and use AvantGo for additional pre-screened web info (to avoid surfing...but the Wi-Fi news is exciting...!)

A bit OT - - I have been looking for an expense app that is close to the old Palm version. I have a 650 and FWIW think I'd be happy with my old VxIII - if i could get it back to life. Something SIMPLE. any suggestions

One major reason I havent switched to Windows Mobile:
Life Balance Task Manager

Other must have software in my opinion:

Snapper Mail (I have tried most of the others, Snapper Mail is almost miraculous in comparison

DateBook5 (the Palm OS calendar)

Documents to Go

Backup Buddy VFS Professional

Other programs I find really useful:

2Action Meeting (meeting tracker, manager, action item creator - this is almost becoming indispensible for me)

Natara Bonsai (Outliner)

DayNotez

A colleague at a conference told me about this software

http://www.junefabrics.com/

You can get internet access on your laptop by using your Treo! This comes in very handy when you are traveling and no wifi internet access is nearby and you want to quickly check something online..., switch your seats, check in online while waiting at the gate, for example. It already came in very handy while working at my local Panera bread store and their wifi connection just died. IMHO, it is a must have. One time fee of $34 only.

I've been using Expense Plus for a couple of years now - very quick and easy. Their customer support has been excellent - provided a patch when I moved the app from my T3 to Treo650 and answered plenty of questions.
